My girlfriend and I have been dating for almost a year now. We work in the same place but are in different departments. A little bit of caution is needed if you start dating a coworker. First, if you can't stand people being in your business than don't do it. At first we tried to keep it secret, but someone saw us together after about five weeks. Then everyone wants to know about your personal life. Keep it quiet on your part, if she wants to tell, then let her tell. Also, keep it so that at work, she is a coworker. Don't be protective unless her life is at risk. At home, she is your girlfriend, so treat her as such.

Tricky. You wouldn't believe the articles I've looked up about dating co-workers. I didn't learn much from them, but here's what I have for you from personal experience:

I started dating a man from my office about 3 months after I started working there. We bloomed into a great, trusting, solid relationship. All of our co-workers knew of our previous relationships, divorces, kids, etc and though that our dating was fabulous. Unfortunately, my boyfriend was laid off from our company along with a bunch of other people, and I was let go soonafter. And despite not having that daily working environment that we relied on, our relationship is still strong. So, while mine turned out great, they don't all happen like that. Just be careful about it. If you ask professionally at the workplace and save the mushy stuff for home, you'll have more respect from your co-workers, and will come to enjoy the relationship on new levels.

It is not a good idea to combine romance and business. If it doesn't work out, things will be extremely awkward after it ends. Besides, many firms have rules against dating co-workers. There's an old saying "Don't poop where you eat" and it is very applicable to this situation. There are plenty of other people to date who don't work with you. Just a bad idea in my opinion. Good luck! :)

Well get to know them a bit more so you understand if there is a breakup it will not turn into nasty stuff at work. Thats why people don't get involved with people at work because if it doesn't work out then you still have to see them every day. However, that being said, life is too short to be unhappy so why not ask her out for dinner or a coffee. Take care Heather

First, check the company rules, some don't allow it. Dating a coworker can be fine as long as an argument will not affect the job. Be professional at work and wild after:)

well this depends on a lot of things.... like do you work at a brokerage firm or do you work at mcdonalds? and also how mature are you and the other person? I think its ok just beward of how your actions affect your job performance and always plan on the event of a breakup u still have to respect eachother at work like nothing ever happened and that can be very difficult!

No problem as long as neither of you are married, it is
not against company policy and one of you is not the
others immediate supervisor...
