Do they think that God is going to reward them points for every one they convert over with the idea that the more points they get puts them closer to Heaven?

If God is the only one who can convert sinners. Why do these christians think they have to do it? Do they think they don't have enough faith to leave it to Him?

Well, considering that if you aren't a Christian in their eyes you are a sinner, so therefore they really attempt to convert anyone who isn't a christian. Not all of them do it, but it's hardly any different to any other religion that does 'recruiting drives'.
Too many of them live by the passages that tell you to go out and spread the word, and that by their acts they'll prove their right to go to heaven. Truth is we're all heading for heaven, but we're not all on the same timetable though.

Christians can not convert (save) a sinner. Only God along with the individual sinner can do that. It is the requirement for a Christian however that they do what they can to spread the good news of Jesus Christ to everyone so that they can make their choice.

Christians know that they cannot convert sinners.

It is a Christians duty to tell the Gospel story and let the Holy Spirit convict and convert the sinner.

First of all there are no "brownie points" for Christians. We are saved by faith not by works.ESV Ephesians 2:8 "For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God." The majority of Christians were once sinners themselves so if they could be saved why not others? Also the Bible commands Christians to tell others about their belief. Despite all this I must agree that many Christians can be annoying in their evangelism and some are down right obnoxious.

If that were the only motivation they would never have success. God wants us to have compassion for someone we are trying to convert. If we don't have love, we are not worthy to speak for Him. He would then find better representatives to reach out to others.

Christians are already assured of heaven by Gods grace so preaching to others could never be a way of getting into heaven.

As for rewards, just seeing someone in heaven whom you helped lead to Jesus, would be enough of a reward.

Knowledgeable Christians know that "they" cannot convert sinners. Only the Holy Spirit of God can do that. But a Christian can be used by God to facilitate the conversion process. As to "why" Christians seek to be used to convert sinners, it has nothing to do with getting closer to Heaven.

It has to do with remembering that we were once lost sinners just like everyone else, without God or hope in this fallen world. So the love of Christ that is in us constrains us to call out to the lost so that they too might be saved. When a person is born again by the Spirit of God they start on a journey and seek to do the good works that God has planned in advance and put on their hearts for them to do.

Ephesians 2:1 And you were dead in the trespasses and sins 2 in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience-- 3 among whom we all once lived in the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the body and the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind.

4 But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, 5 even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ--by grace you have been saved-- 6 and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, 7 so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.

8 For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, 9 not a result of works, so that no one may boast.

10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.

I am a Catholic and I find your term "Do they think God is going to reward them points for everyone they convert over" disrespectful and offensive. God said to spread the good news. We don't think of anyone as "sinners" for we all sin. God shows everyone uncondtional love and we are trying to get people to realize it. We aren't forcing you to convert or telling you that what we believe is right and if you don't you're going to hell, we are trying to get people to see the greatness of God. Do we earn points? Yes we do I've got 33, no! Of course not! We are not trying to suck up to the Big Guy we're just trying to follow in his footsteps and follow his way.

Since when have non-christians been sinners?

But they probably see heaven as some sort of reward like reaching level 7 on here, and want to point game to get there as quickly as possible

Well to be a true christian you have to come to the realization that you yourself do commit sins. You have to repent against them. I don't think there are people out there who call themselves Christians who try to convert sinners. These people you are referring to maybe called bigots. Because only the true christian knows that they do commit sins and they also have to accept that others will commit sins. In penance only then we are forgiven.

Not necessarily. I think some might just be trying to help people realize what they themselves might have already realized. that you are not just hurting yourself when you sin but others. Everything you do affects someone else whether you see that effect or not. Why are you so defensive about sinners, are you, I mean we all are, but what are you doing in your life that is so bad you have to hate christians for trying to help you. and by the way, I am not a christian.
