IF you are a law abiding Citizen with a clean record YES it is, and it is you Duty to Vote, BUT ONLY IF you know what the issues are and understand them. You must also know where the person stands on those issues. I am sad to say though it seems that whoever gets elected gets Amnesia as soon as they get into office it seems. Sad indeed.

Yes, voting is a good thing.
But we need to understand that we live in a REPUBLIC--not a Democracy. Majority does not govern in the United States--that is Mob Rule.
In a Republic, laws and policies that are put to a vote must have a public purpose, and their legitimacy is rooted in the consent of the governed and protecting the life liberty and property of the People. There is also a hierarchy of Law, so that rules and regulations cannot violate (and really need to be based on ) a statute, and statutes must not violate (and also should be based on) our Constitution--and this appleies to the States as well as to uor Federal syetem. When voting on anything, this all must be taken into consideration.
The word REPUBLIC comes from Latin meaining "That which is Public" ... laws and policies that we or our elected officials vote on have to have some public interest. In the Courts, when a law is called into question, the test is called "compelling state interest." For instance, what is the compelling state interest for requiring a person to register his firearms? So the government knows who owns guns? So my guns can be identified if they are stolen? (Where is the REAL Public interest in any of those?) The only real compelling state interest to require gun registration is so the government has an inventory of the available weaponry should the militia be called out for the common defense; there is no other real compelling State or Public interest. And so, in a Republic, the policies and laws we vote on should be properly public in nature.
Back to voting... Yes, voting is good, but I do not think there is any correlation between the percentage of people who vote and the election of good politicans or the enactment of good laws. Election results are only as good as the proposals on the ballot and the decisions voters make. I'd prefer it if registering to vote and voting itself weren't so simple. (In Oregon, where I'm from, the register you to vote at the DMV, and send all ballots thorugh the mail--In my opinion, this encourages people to vote who would not have voted otherwise.) Not all opinions are the same! There are informed opinions, and uninformed opinions. I'd rather have a small number of informed people vote than a large number of uninformed voters. Still, we can't exclude anyone. I think voting is a repsonsibility as well as a right.

Yes on certain things. But you can't put everything to a vote. In America, you can't put something to a vote that would violate any of the constitutional rights of another American. For example, making a law that would only make blue-eyed people pay taxes or something ridiculous like that. You can't have a vote on something that oppresses a minority.

Voting is a very good thing. The way I see it, a vote is a vote against the candidate(s) you do not want, rather than the one you do want. So basically if you do not vote, you are voting for whoever wins. Political apathy is an enemy of democracy, whatever your beliefs are you should not want another person to decide them for you.

Our freedom to elect our own leaders is very important. We often let only the few people who chose to vote do this for us. I believe that voting is a very important thing. The wealthy people, or the special interest people always vote; so they are overrepresented in our govt. Yes, I think voting is a good thing, and a very important thing.

Since the people get to vote it kinda makes them feel like they are doing something. Its really a joke I think. We need to start this gov't thing all over at the point of a gun if necessary.
It will never change except to get worse!!

Voting is the only effective way that you can express your responsibility as a citizen in regard as to who will lead your country and your state. It is not only a good thing, but it's the best means to preserve democracy,

Yes but it could be better if people knew the issues instead of letting commercials & television to pick our leaders.
We had a registered member of the Communist Party run as a Democrat & get elected. He never tried to hide it, but voters were too lazy to know who they put on their County Commissioners - 4 yrs of a Communist. Sad

It would be, if more people did it, and took the time to know the candidates, instead of voting for the party.

Voting is a very good thing! Its how we express our opinions. With the exception of presidential elections. The Electoral College is very out dated, unnecessary and could be dangerous.
