Yes, there are several.
1. place a vacuum cleaner hose opening near where you are cutting the onion and the cleaner far away.
2. put a fan facing where you are cutting the onion and blow the air away from the area.
3. wear swimmers goggles
4. Put the onion in ice water before cutting will lower the lacromatic gas produced when cutting.
5. Dip the knife used to cut the onion in ice water after each cut.

Mrs. Brady suggested to Alice in a Brady Bunch episode to cut the onion under cold water. From the above suggestions, it sounds like it was a good idea!

You can soak the onion in very cold water before you cut it. Also, some say that if you hold a toothpick between your teeth it helps. I've had mixed results with that one. You could buy milder onions too.
