Personally, I don't get a great deal of satisfaction from volunteer work where one simply sends a donation.

I like hands on activities, or activities where you can work with people to help them. What are organizations/oppurtunities that offer this?

Your local volunteer center specializes in providing hands on volunteer opportunities that will likely match your interests. They can provide one-time or short-term volunteer projects for you. If you are interested in a specific type of long-term project, they can also connect you with other non-profit agencies that match your goals and interests.

I usually recommend affiliates of the Hands On Network. They provide some of the best local community volunteer projects.

Here are some links to help you find your volunteer center:

Through my volunteer center, I tutor children at the local library, lead a group of teens as docents at the local museum, package food at the local food bank, clean our parks and beaches, and a lot of other diverse projects.

Good luck!

You can go to your local hospital and volunteer there- holding babies in the nursery, or activities with other folks.
Also, consider being a mentor for a teenager- they are desperately needed. Here's a website I found:

Take care!

The library, old folk's homes, hospitals, and homeless shelters all come to mind.
