I went through this with my very old cat last year.

First, get it checked out by a vet. Blood tests will often indicate why the cat is not eating much. My cat was developing kidney failure which is very common and a symptom of this is eating less and losing weight. The vet had me hydrate my cat with subcutaneous needle and an IV bag with saline. They taught me how to do it in the office and then i did it myself at home - a scary idea at first but it worked and my cat improved and didn't mind the treatment.

Second, I fed her anything she liked and would eat. She was old, so it wasn't like I was concerned with her long-term longevity - she was already 19 years old. I made her roast chicken, gave her canned people tuna, bought her Fancy Feast which I consider kitty junk food but she loved it, and gave her cottage cheese. If she liked it, she got it. Anything to get her to eat.

Doing this, she lasted about another year. Eventually her kidneys got really bad and and she stopped eating altogether. Kidney failure is not a painful way to go, they just slow down till they basically stop.

Good luck with your kitty.

Try mashing some canned tuna or salmon with gerber rice cereal (the kind for babies) with some hard-boiled egg yolk also mashed in - add bottled water to moisten it.

i had a cat like that (she died last year of old age) we fed her "gourmet" wet cat food, and i think some kitten wet food and some seior wet food and left the water bowl very close to her so she wouldnt have to walk far to get a drink. i would try to get her to eat those wet food off of your fingers, she wouldnt eat it out of a bowl.

You should take him to vet to see if they have any ideas or recipes or even things that you can just purchase at the store.
