Cropping was the term used in a dark rooms to create better photographs from a negative. Cropping was/is a technique to print only part of the negative and is especially valuable to enhance picture composition.

It's called "cropping" because you crop the size of how large or small you want the print to be, choose which part of the print that you want printed, and print!

use the enlarger to crop
