High school kids will want some flash, I suppose, but don't go with rap or heavy metal - that just sends the wrong idea. Honestly, I'm too old to tell you what would work today, but I would go with something energetic, but not overly aggressive. You don't want to sell you art as something that's used to crush the weaker, do you?

I wouldn't go for the flashy entrance either. Just file in and start showing what you have to show - You went through a lot of trouble learning this, right? So you'll want to show your art the respect it deserves.

Hi there

I have done a few of these in the past and one thing i can tell you is don't demonstrate any form! Not that there's anything wrong with doing Kata providing that you are exceptionally good at it that is? The general public just don't seem to understand it.lol.

The best sort of demonstration is to perform scenarios such as the school bully or defenceless woman routine that overcomes the attacker. Weapons demonstrations also go down a treat as do temashiwara (Bord and tile breaking) but only do this under proper instruction as they can be dangerous.

If you are still not sure what to put together my advice is to demonstrate what you do best and keep it simple.

As for music anything fast and oriental. Rave music is OK as it is fast paced and pumps up the action. Try ready steady go by Paul Okenfold. There's a nice version on the Collateral soundtrack! Failing that have a look on RKO for some old last ninja or fist remixes. You can download these for free and some a excellent.

Regards

Idai

Well...

I would make it a mix of corny and serious effective technique. After all, people usually like fun.. and corny is always fun. Plus, I've been teaching for many years. Most people in martial arts are corny.. at least the ones that last. Wonder why that is??

I would do a mix if you can of a few different songs. Don't just do one.. don't overdo it either though.

Maybe throw in "you're the best around" from the Karate Kid. Most people know it, it's corny as can be, funny, fun, and it is a catchy tune...

Is it just you?? or you and some other students? Put together some dive roll routines, with cartwheels and craziness... jumping over each other, etc...

Do some breaks maybe.. that's always nice.

Demo some techniques... Have some guys attack you and throw them around (make sure they're good, so they can make you look better than you are.) Always nice to have an uke that "overdoes" it a bit during a demo. People like it when people go flying.. so throw some people, etc..

Just show off your stuff. Show them the parts you love about it.. and they'll love it too. People feed off of you at a demo.. so if you're into it and having a blast.. most of them will be too.

If you can do continuous butterfly twists or kicks to enter. Maybe handsprings or front flips. Or maybe you want to play that angle of just walking up all calm and just going crazy out of nowhere with your form. Definately do a flashy form. Highschool kids dont know enough about martial arts to appriciate more than speed strength and acrobatics. I'll repost in a sec with a list of songs that are good. In case you dont know Im the king of martial arts song recomendations
