Same thing goes for Baptists. Sometimes when I contemplate these people, lord have mercy!

According the a report by the United Nations, there are about 15 million witnesses on the planet, but the official numbers put out by the Watchtower is about 7 million. The reason for the difference is that unlike other religions, the official numbers address only those who are active publishers. My stepfather is still an active publisher, but not my mother, as her age and health is preventing it. She attends meetings by phone hookup.

In a few days, you might consider going to the local Kingdom Hall at sunset on the night of the full moon. You will see the one ritual they do keep, annually.

We are more than 6 million worldwide.

GOOD NEWS

This refers to the good news of the Kingdom of God and of salvation by faith in Jesus Christ. It is called in the Bible “the good news of the kingdom” (Mt 4:23), “the good news of God” (Ro 15:16), “the good news about Jesus Christ” (Mr 1:1), “the good news of the undeserved kindness of God” (Ac 20:24), “the good news of peace” (Eph 6:15), and the “everlasting good news” (Re 14:6).

The Greek word translated “good news” (“gospel” in KJ and some other versions) is eu·ag·ge′li·on. “An evangelizer” (the English word being almost a transliteration of the Greek) is a preacher of the good news.—Ac 21:8; 2Ti 4:5.

WHY do Jehovah’s Witnesses preach so persistently? Certainly we are known worldwide for our public ministry, whether it be from house to house, on the streets, or during informal contacts. On every suitable occasion, we identify ourselves as Witnesses and try with tact to communicate the good news we treasure. In fact, we could say that this ministry is our trademark!—Colossians 4:6.

Just think about it—whenever people see in their neighborhood a group of well-dressed men, women, and children with briefcases, what is usually their first thought? Is it, ‘Oh, here come the Catholics (or Orthodox) again!’ or, ‘Here come the Pentecostals (or Baptists) again!’ No. People know that such religions do not have whole families performing a house-to-house ministry. Perhaps some religious groups send some “missionaries” for a two-year stint into certain areas, but their rank-and-file members do not participate in any such ministry. Only Jehovah’s Witnesses are recognized worldwide for their zeal in communicating their message to others on every suitable occasion. And they are known for their magazines, The Watchtower and Awake!—Isaiah 43:10-12; Acts 1:8.

In his terse version of Jesus’ command to preach the good news in all the nations, Mark alone uses the word “first.” (Mark 13:10; compare Matthew 24:14.) The version by J. B. Phillips reads: “For before the end comes the gospel must be proclaimed to all nations.” The adverbial use of “first” implies that other events will follow the worldwide evangelizing work. Those events will include the promised great tribulation and Christ’s righteous rulership over the new world.—Matthew 24:21-31; Revelation 16:14-16; 21:1-4.

Of course, preaching from house to house to strangers is no easy matter, regardless of how many years one may have been a Witness. Then what keeps these Christians going? Their Christian dedication and a sense of responsibility. Paul wrote: “If, now, I am declaring the good news, it is no reason for me to boast, for necessity is laid upon me. Really, woe is me if I did not declare the good news!” True Christians have a message that means life, so how could they possibly keep it to themselves? The very principle of bloodguilt for failing to give a warning in time of danger is an impelling reason to preach the good news.—1 Corinthians 9:16; Ezekiel 3:17-21.

I am currently studying in Greece and up till now, I had no idea what the Witnesses were about. But let me tell you, in light of the Orthodox church and what goes on behind those guilded doors, Jehovah's Witnesses are a blessing! They are the only religion that has managed to stick here (Crete) while vicious opposition from the Orthodox priests continues. Orthodox Priests say "Believe and don't ask." while the Witnesses say, "Don't believe until you have satisfied your questions." These Greek JW's are humble, kind, take a lot of crap that would be illegal in the states, and still they smile and offer people free bibles (orthodox does not allow translation of the bible into modern greek so no one knows how to read it) All in all I have a great respect for them and believe they are on the right path.

What do you mean, what is their big idea? We are the only ones adhering to God's word as we believe the Bible to be the inspired word of God in it's entirety. There are more than 6 million Jehovah's Witnesses around the world in more than 235 lands with some 7 + million associating with us and our numbers are increasing with about 1000 new Witnesses being baptized weekly.

According to their 2006 report, there are 6,741,444 active Jehovah's Witnesses who actually knock on doors each month. A total of 16,675,113 associate themselves with Jehovah's Witnesses.

Jehovah's Witnesses understand the Scriptures to teach that God's Kingdom will soon replace all earthly governments.
(Daniel 2:44) God of heaven will set up a kingdom... It will crush and put an end to all these kingdoms, and it itself will stand to times indefinite

That Kingdom will rule over the vast majority of mankind, most of whom will have been raised from the dead after Armageddon.
(John 11:23,24) Jesus said to her: “Your brother will rise.” Martha said to him: “I know he will rise in the resurrection on the last day.”
(Acts 24:15) There is going to be a resurrection of both the righteous and the unrighteous.

Until that resurrection, there is no suffering in "hell", or the grave. Sometime after the resurrection, death and "hell" will themselves be destroyed.
(Ecclesiastes 9:5) For the living are conscious that they will die; but as for the dead, they are conscious of nothing at all
(Ecclesiastes 9:10) there is no work nor devising nor knowledge nor wisdom in Sheol ["hell"]
(Revelation 20:14) And death and Hades ["hell"] were hurled into the lake of fire

While a limitted number of humans will be resurrected to heaven to share in ruling over mankind, the vast majority (literally more than 99.9%) of Jehovah's Witnesses expect an EARTHLY hope, the same hope given to Adam and Eve.
(Genesis 1:28) God blessed them and God said to them: “Be fruitful and become many and fill THE EARTH and subdue it [caps added]
(Genesis 2:17) You must not eat from it, for in the day you eat from it you will positively die [so never eating from that tree means never dying]

Interestingly, the Scriptures are full of references to this earthly hope.
(Psalms 37:11) 'the meek will possess the earth'
(Proverbs 2:21) 'upright will reside in the earth'
(Isaiah 45:18) 'God formed the earth to be inhabited'
(Matthew 5:5) 'the mild will inherit the earth'
(Revelation 21:3) The tent of God is with mankind

what have you got against baptists? they are one of the most biblically sound branches of christianity, and no, i'm not baptist. As for the Jehovah's Witnesses, all we can do for them is pray. But if you want to win them to christ, when they knock on your door, instead of screaming at them, be friendly, and invite them over for dinner. then you can talk to them, and be polite, and tell them about your faith. Same goes for mormons. How are we Going to show people Christ if we shun them?

peace be with you.
