I always thought it was out of respect for thier mothers. (and who wants to hear their son died in a race on Mother's Day).

Nascar has always done that. It is done out of respect for the drivers and their families, so they can spend time together.

If you notice...Nascar has one of the longest schedules out of a lot of sports. The Cup series has 36 races throughout the entire year and they get like 2 weeks off throughout the entire season. And even during their off weeks...they are still working preparing for the upcoming race. Monday-Thursday the teams and the drivers are preparing for the upcoming race.

By not having races on National Holidays..this gives the drivers and their teams time to rest and spend with their families.

I have already got my weekend planned around the Cup race. Screw football, i'm gonna be watching NASCAR live to tell the tale Sunday. i'm no longer taping the race. i pick to entice close what's happening before the web. NASCAR sprint Cup racing stay @ Dover, The Monster Mile, Sunday, midday time! there is merely too a lot available (or lost) in this Sundays race. For all you human beings watching both races, "correct-on!"

It's promoted as a family friendly sport first of all. Another reason, I think, is that you wouldn't want to have a bad wreck with a serious injury or even a fatality on Mother's Day. That would surely make what is supposed to be a time to honor your mother a horrible anniversary date.

Mother's Day and Easter are no race days because it's considered family time for the drivers and crews.

NASCAR considers itself "American", so having the day off for Mother's Day is out of respect to the family

nascar doesn't race on holidays at all (mothers, veterans) out of admiration for the families of the drivers. it's been that way since I can remember. If you want to check for yourself go to the website below

It is a long standing tradition not to race on Mother's Day, to allow the drivers and fans to spend time with MOM!
