My 1 yr old dane mix was eating my coonhound's poo so I fed the coonhound Deter. A frew days later the dane who has a VERY healthy appetite quit eating but I attributed this to the Deter and didn't worry. When a few more days went by and he still wouldn't eat and was losing weight I took him to the vet - who said he had a gastric ulcer and possibly Addison's disease (we get the results tom.) They kept him for 3 days with an IV - his electrolytes were low - and his 2nd night he actually ate so they sent him back home. The day he came home (yesterday) he looked anorexic but happy, then this morning I found him laying in the rain and mud and he tried to get up and fell over. We took him to the emergency vet and he began to have bloody diarrhea and they kept him and tried their best for a few hours but he bled to death. He has not gotten into any kind of poison and has always been healthy until now - and the timinig with respect to the Deter seems fishy. Any possibility it is related?

Did they parvo test him? I don't know what deter is, but you can contact National Animal Poison Control to find out. They have a website.
I would strongly suspect parvo if he had never been vaccinated. The clinical signs certainly do fit. A one year old dog unvaccinated can certainly get this disease. I have seen dogs as old as 2-4 test positive.
The only other common poison for dogs to get into that causes bleeding is rat bait. The gastric ulcer is also a good possibilty, but the question would be how did he get that?
I am very sorry for your pup. I hope you find some answers.

Vitamin K ( Koagulant) to stop bleeding without harm, we weaned (STOPPED) Prednisone and Started our dog on 50 MCG vitamin k in place of prednisone. Vets raved about the blood panel results, until I told them prednisone was stopped. We decided our responsibility is to do the BEST we can. Amazing how a vet will prescribe a toxic drug like prednisone for an allergy, yet scoff at the scientific evidence worldwide on the benefits of vitamin k. Some scientist spend their life studying vitamins,Minerals,& herbs. And their centuries old benefits, while a vet that is taught by a pharmaceutical company thinks they have the answer. Meanwhile mans best friend gets poisoned everyday by vets, (for a nominal fee of course) as they insist on over vaccination to the tune of billions of $$$$, for the industry that makes the vaccines. Like the dog good co. That hires a vet, so they can put vet approved on the bag of crap, they call food. Most Vets are now stooges for drug companies....beware of your vet

It certainly sounds like some sort of poisoning. I would suspect the Deter.
Parvo can also cause bleeding, but I'm sure your vet checked for that.
I'm so very sorry for the loss of your dog. I lost my dog several years ago, and it still causes me to tear up when I think about her.
I wish you well.

my dog recently died too. he was eating very well infact eating more than normal when suddenly he went off his food, we tried forcing him to eat but he wasn't having any of it. also he was drinking a significant amount of water. he was very down. and would go out and be unable to bring himself in again.one vet we brought him to said it was poison possibly paraquat. we brought him to another who said poisoning but then a blood test said it was not and he said possibly stomach ulcers. he also passed bloody diarrhoa. he stayed for the week and was on medication and the vet got him eating. but the next morning we were in to bring him home he wouldn't eat so he was kept in there. the vet operated and found large ulcers in his stomach. the dog died after the operation. ... no Deter.

people put out poisons for rats and it could have been hidden in foods your dog likes.

Child rearing? lol Basically life is a slow excruciating painful death process. Sometimes our attention is stolen away from the pain by our relative perception of how well we are doing in the race? But the pain, the uncertainty stimulus environment brings us back to our sober senses, and if it were not for that, this would be sooooooo boring! Enjoy the ride of life! Healing be unto you and yours and me and mine in Forgive Affirmed Spirit

You should have a necropsy(autopsy) done to see why he died. I am so sorry for your loss. If he was kept outside someone may have tossed him some meat laced with antifreeze or another kind of poison. Once again I am so sorry for your loss.

Your dog could have ingested an object that is obstructing his intestines and therefore could also have punctured the intestine. I am so sorry to hear that he didn't make it.
