When you are a child, your parents are your world. You see the world through their eyes, and quite naturally think as they do. In a way, your taking on their perspectives, since you, especially at first, have nothing with which to compare them, is nature's "brainwashing" and keeps the family united.

As children grow older, and able to start seeing how others think and act, they quite naturally compare what they have learned with what they see outside, and it can come as quite a shock.
When they find discrepancies in the two, and find new ways of looking at things more attractive or sensible....anything from house rules, expectations, values etc.... they eventually reach a point where they form their own individual tastes and opinions.

If these really go against their families' beliefs, they start to see that their parents were not infallible at all, and they can't help but judge them. They are exercising their newly acquired ability to make judgements of their own, and those can be unkind, realistic, or just plain dismissive.

If they have genuine cause to feel resentful at their parents, time and experience can often combine to allow them to see what made them act or think the way they did ~ (after all the parents were influenced by other forces, too) and understand that any mistakes they made, or harm they caused, were done so more in ignorance than deliberate intent. (in normal cases ~ abuse is another whole issue)

The more thoughtful and insightful the child, the more he can forgive them for the way they are, as he/she grows up, and look at them with more understanding, rather than being bitter for how they were and what they 'did' to him/her.

Another (paraphrased a bit) quote is "When I was a child, I thought my parents knew everything. When I was a teenager, I couldnt believe how stupid they really were, and was so surprised when I hit my twenties to see how much more they'd learned." !!!

It means children begin their life trusting decisions that their parents make, but as they grow older, children learn to think for themselves. Then, as children become adults and experience the difficulties of parenting, they see how hard it was for their parents to make the same decisions they had to make. Sometimes, adult children see that the decisions made by their parents, were more simple and geared toward the comprehension of the child, than correct.

it means that kids love their parents because they don't know other sides of them. as they get older they change maybe because parents tell them not to do the same things that the parent is doing.
