Yes, I too had been thinking just as you do, in order to save the time of co-answers, if the lengthy answers are not relevant.

Many people like to hear themselves talk (or watch themselves write... ;)). I guess some believe they have all the answers, and need to ramble on and on so that us weaker-minded souls can learn from their "wisdom".
Of course, the worst answers are those long ones that are pasted from a web site. I don't care if someone writes an answer that I agree or disagree with; what I want is a chance to learn from others. I don't learn much from those who paste well.

Yes. It takes too long to read, and gets very boring at the end. Just ask the question, have a couple of clarifying points and get on with it. That goes for answers as well.

I thought this site was called "Answers" not "Sound bites" Sometimes an answer requires more then a line or two. Have we as a culture completely lost our ability to concentrate on something longer then a minute or two?

Yes, unless the question is a detailed one. Some people write more crap than is necessary, but that's a sure sign that it's been cut & pasted from a website.

No, I feel the need to express my opinion and make it known to all. And just becuase it's long doesn't mean that it is copy and paste.
I really have some deep thoughts going on in there:

I don't mind people with long answers. I just can't stand pages of copy/pasted answers. I'm not THAT lazy....if they just sum up the info and provide the link, I can go get more details myself. And I hate trying to scroll down through that mess....worse than my bro's myspace page with his thousands of movies and pictures.

If the answer is that long I always roll it up unread with a thumbs down - problem solved. If someone can't get their point across with 5 or 6 sentences, then they won't be able to do it with 50 either.

When that happens there is little writing involved - it's usually c&p from another site. And yes, I do think answers could be more succinct.
