I am lawyer and I would like to work in Canada doing legal type work; however, I do not wish to take the Alberta Bar at this time. Is it possible to enter into Canada in TN status without being licensed to practice law in Alberta?

If you are an attorney, you know you can't even go from one state in the US to another without being admitted to the bar, and you would know that this could be answered as to any repocipocal agreement by merley calling thier bar.

So my thought is that you surely can not be a bar attorney in the US since they would know all of this as a bar member.

howdy georgia i now run a yahoo group free for things like this. i migrated from the us to canada. I have info just for you!

I will give you the US and Cnd NAFTA links and info for the bar. They are very strict about foreign trained anyone even from the USA. They are trying to get the unions who run things there to loosen up. My husband is a Canuk.

any link that has gc.ca is from the govt of canada.

also browse at www.international.gc.ca
http://www.dfait-maeci.gc.ca/nafta-alena/menu-en.asp the cnd official nafta site.

http://www.cba.org/CBA/Gate.asp cnd bar with links to provincial site
also call 1 800 O is in the letter O Canada. Toll free from the US btw.

Various articles and other legal resources will be posted here in the near future.
