My cat only like fresh food and water. He only drinks water straigh from the tap. If the water has been sitting in a dish he will not drink it. And if his food has been in his food bowl he won't eat it. He has to follow me out to the kitchen and beg for fresh food. Even if he has food in his bowl. I have to dump out his old food and give him fresh dry & fresh canned food. I don't like waisting his food. Is there any thing I can do to stop him acting like that?

My male Russian Blue is like that also. He knocks his water bowl all over the kitchen spilling it all over the place. I constantly mop the floor.

My cat will sit at the water bowl and food bowl until I get there. I have to put fresh food on top of the other food in his bowl. Then he will eat it. I only put a little bit at a time in his dish. I don't waste any food.

If your cat is too smart for that, then put his "old" food into a seperate container and start feeding him that before getting fresh food.

My cat does exactly the same thing with the water, apparently it's really common. Cats are very intelligent animals; if they're thirsty, they'll drink so make sure it's always available in a dish, even if they don't seem to ever drink from it.

With the food, I have no idea but I do know that some cats are just really fussy with what they eat -- mine doesn't like some types of canned food and will only eat fresh mince or salmon - no other types of fresh fish, chicken, pork, etc. Maybe just feed it small amounts of fresh food when it follows you and makes sure you know when it's hungry? That way its food won't be wasted and you know how much it is eating so it also won't gain weight.

I think you just have a high maintenance kitty that likes attention! lol :)

My cat will only drink shower water. Waits patiently while I shower, and licks the tub. At least he doesn't drink out of the toilet bowl.

My cat is also insistent on fresh food. But I fool him by keeping the food in a plastic container. When I find a lot of food in his bowl at feeding time, I keep the lid on the plastic container and shake it over the bowl. He thinks I've poured out fresh food. They're bright, but not too bright.

Most cats are religious about routine. They get upset if anything isn't done just right. If he's conditioned you to feed him fresh food at a certain time, that's it. You're committed. The only way to change this is a test of wills...decide what you want him to do and act accordingly. But you have to be completely consistent, or he'll assume you've broken training, and he will scold you.

There is actually My cat Likes water from a water bottle and fresh foods as well. And he will just sit there and starve if he does not get what he wants. What you and myself are doing wrong is that we are spoiling them give him fresh water when you leave for work Leave water in the bathroom sink . That is Fresh water for them. When he wants fresh dry cat food dump his old stuff back in with the org, and scoop again but DO NOT let him/her see you doing this. Cats are smart. Good LUCK. If you do not want him to be like this let it sit it will get annoying but He will learn to like it.

My cat is the same way about water, but the tap water here is really hard, and I don't like him drinking it. I bought one of those freshflow fountains (about $30ish). I use distilled water in it (at the vet's recommendation). He does drink out of it, and has stopped begging for tap water.

With food, I give mine dry, and sometimes I just have to go and stir it around with my fingers, so it makes noise like I've put fresh in. You could give him food in smaller portions (keep the unused in the fridge), so it wouldn't waste as much.

We have a daft cat as well. He refuses point blank to eat tinned (wet) food and will only eat dry stuff. Either that or old cooked vegetables.

He also much prefers to drink running water and used to pester us at the tap in the bath all the time! It was driving us nuts! Since we got him a fountain though its much improved the situation.

You could try just putting his food dish in front of him. Or if he wants fresh food. Put the old food back in the bag then get another scoop & you won't be wasting anything.
