They love chicken guts when we cook up chickens and give them the leftovers, and the cats are as big as some foxes, so why don't the cats try to eat live chickens?

Ti raised chicken's and i have 4 cats. They were raised with them , they didn't bother the full grown chicken's but they would chase the little Bantam chicken's, though they never killed any just played with them. They would however kill and eat the little chick's if the could get one without getting pecked and flogged by the mother.

A cat doesn't have the intellectual ability to associate the yummy innards you feed him with the living, breathing chicken outside in the yard. Generally the carnivores in the animal kingdom pick on smaller prey for their food and a full-grown chicken can damage a small cat. That's probably why they don't eat the chicks either as the mother hen will protect them.

Don't "cook up" those hearts, gizzards and livers you give to your cats. They will enjoy them raw and by cooking you are destroying a lot of the valuable nutrients in the food.

It is the same as dogs and cats if they are raised or lived with them they tend to either get along or just put up with them. I have raised chickens before and have always had cats and never had any problems with them not getting along.

My only guess would be that cats tend to stick with smaller, more practical prey than prey almost as big as they are. I wonder if cats chase baby chicks more than adult chickens?
I would think that if a cat was extremely hungry, it would try to hunt chickens.

Because they know they will be whipped. Lol. And they hate feathers! Am sure that helps mask any smell the chickens have.
