Do you think that the children who get diseases, die early, and are born handicapped are paying in this life for being "bad" in their previous lives?

To understand karma you must first understand the law of cause and effect. The law of cause and effect basically states that all actions have a cause and a resulting effect.

‘Karma’ is the law of cause and effect as applied to consciousness. Every cognitive action done now on your part is due to a previous cognitive cause or action. Every cognitive action done now will effect your cognition in the future.

Now, to truly understand karma you next need to truly understand what this 'consciousness' is. It is *not* a soul. It is not 'you'. It is a very subtle energy that the 'you' sort of rides on. 'You' die when your body dies, but this subtle energy continues.

A better way of viewing karma is to think of a billiard ball hitting another billiard ball. The energy gets transmitted, but the two balls are separate and there is no judgment (which is what your karmic model is implying) involved.

I don't.
By some schools of thaught trauma in past lives can have an affect on the present life and I suppose that could include predisposing one to such conditions.
The way some religions view Karma and reincarnation I guess that's what they believe but punishment in my view is a simplified answere to explain a more complicated picture.
If I get in a car wreck real bad and it steals away my life and kids and family and friends of an entire lifetime from me, I'm sure the next body I get I'll want to keep away from car wrecks ( maybe speeding cars will give me a stiff neck or back or an acke somewheres ) more than the guy who died drowning in the park after being mugged. I'm sure gasping for air while being born next will be a little more traumatic for him and can see if there was going to be a cause and affect relationship those lines make more sense than being punnished because you slaughtered a stolen goat for dinner because you were starving or for fun or something, so next life your a goat that gets slaughtered. I mean, we don't remember past lifes so much so of what possible use is that system?
Sorry if I step on any religious beleif but that's just my honest answere. If I'm wrong next life maybe I won't have a computer to type my view on or fingers missing or something....
I had a dream of a past life when I was a kid, I was a member of a Space Crew and was jealouse of the captain or some other crew members over some girl. Didn't like it at all. Got no space crew this life so I couldn't tell ya but I did have a hell of a time getting around to getting a wife and all and have the darndest problems with superiors at work. But that doesn't feel like punishment, just I got some of the same kinds of problems lingering from whats happened before that I don't exactly recall or can't face or something. And on that note, If I have the same skills then as now, man I must a been the ace space rocket mechanic....and probably drove a few perfectly good rocket cars into stardust too.

I dont know about reincarnation and karma - but my wife who is Christian and works with handicapped children says that some of these children seem very close to God. Each year at the special school, some of these children pass away and it does not seem like they are being punished for a former life. These children are just called home to be with God. Jesus said, such as these are in the kingdom of heaven.

First of all, God did state in the Old Testament that certain generations will be cursed---due to the abominations committed by their ancestors. Karma & Grace go together---most people fail to realize that. The world was destroyed once already by God because the blood line was impure. The reason it became impure was that the fallen angels were envious of human flesh and lusted for it. Women were raped against their will, there was incest, homosexuality, bestiality, etc...Because of this, that is why I believe these afflitions exist. As far as reincarnation, most people misconstrue this: the change of seasons is a form. In order for you to come back, you have to have permisssion from God and/or His council.

No. I believe that karma comes around in the same lifetime.

I also believe that when we decide to come here for this life we know pretty much when and how we will die before we come. Children who die early came here for a specific purpose, perhaps it is for the impact they made on the living in their short lives.

No, quite the opposite. I think they They are brave little souls that are here to teach those around them a lesson, whether it be compassion, love, or whatever... They've learned their lessons and are now helping us to learn ours.

Reicarnation doesn't make any sense. If animals can't think like humans then how would they know they are reincarnated? Then the spirit would spend eternity going trhrough life not knowing and be tormented:

Really does that make sense?
