My female is in full blown heat, but my male isn't interested. Any ideas why? This is an important breeding, and my male just doesn't seem to be interested past licking my female. She is ready to breed, but he doesn't seem to know what to do... They are both of breeding age, and my female has had a litter before. This will be my male's first time (second try!) and he just doesn't seem to get the idea. Has anyone else ever faced this problem? Any solutions?

First of all, yes there are too many dogs in the world, Kdog. Badly bred dogs. My dogs are going to produce healthier, more conformationally correct dogs than they themselves are. So THIS breeding is going to be promoting a very correct and healthy litter. They are not INBRED, and I take that very personally. If you want to attack people for their choices, you should be ready for retaliation. If you don't have anything positive or constructive to say, then don't say anything at all. I wasn't asking for opinion, I was asking for someone else's knowledge on the matter at hand.

I don't know whats going on with your male but perhaps it just isn't time just yet. Males only really get interested when the females give off just the right sent. If your male still doesn't show any interest then it also could be that although your females has had a previous litter that she isn't stimulated him enough. Leave them alone for a few more days and see what happens. It could be than it's just not going to work between these 2 dogs either. That's the down side of breeding! Don't be on constant look out either if there is some way for you to keep an eye on them without them knowing your around then fine but some dont like the extra company.

Um... sorry I really have no idea. Maybe he's not old enough yet, or somehow just not interested in girls. Are you positive he hasn't been fixed? You probably are, but it's good to check because many petstores do. I don't think there's any way you can force him into being interested. If they're both purebred and this really is a very important breeding then I suppose a vet could always try artificial insemination or something.

Your male dog could think that your dog has already had a mate and doesnt want to get into her life, also you could have a gay dog

You may have a gay male dog. Oh well....they are good for dog shows, but don't count on them breeding.

maybe your male dog knows there are too many dogs in the world already.

Or maybe the two are more closely related than you realize, and they know the puppies would be mutants.

Solution: spay and neuter.

your vet may be able to extract semen from your male dog. I might try to put him on her while she's laying down.

GAY DOG???!! COME ON YOU PEOPLE!
