Thanks for the kind words, guys.
I'm not quite the encyclopedia that Sam and Teef make me out to be, but if this lens is really 30 years old, it won't work on your XTi. Canon changed their lens mount in 1987 when they introduced the EOS system. Canon lenses before then had an 'FD' type mount, and the new stuff has an 'EF' type mount. These are different sizes etc. FD to EF adapters do exist, but they're not worth the trouble. You'll loose exposure metering and it's very hard to focus manually with the XTi (small viewfinder and no split prism).

Yes, I suppose it means "Oh My God," but it is also part of "Top Answerer" OMG, I <3 Ponies!!1's name and I have shortned his nickname with another nickname. (Sorry - I can't find the ASCII code for your heart icon.) Look at the top of the page as soon as you enter the "Cameras" section and you will see what I mean. He is just one of our better informed answers and you can usually count on him stopping in to answer this type of question every few days unless he is on holiday.

See http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AmrHqvfg0IoGYuE942C3M93ty6IX?qid=20070309065209AA1mf9f&show=7#profile-info-DQMjyyK9aa and read OMG's answer for information on Canon lens compatibility.

And I will add my personal endorsement to answers provided by teef_au, as well as Petra_au, Terisu, Alan M, Chuckie, KoKo, fhotoace, Kehkohjones and a host of others, even though some don't have the orange stripe yet. I don't know Driveshaft or TomTom too well yet, but they seem like straight shooters. (I'm sorry if I overlooked someone. This list is off the top of my head!) Yahoo! strapped this thing on my shoulder without asking, but I can appreciate how it helps others to sort out the answers. In my other main section (dental) there are people who know less than nothing presenting themselves as experts and giving horrible advice, so I can see the point of the designation.

OMG is a person and well respected for having been the top answerer in the cameras category.

You will also notice Dr Sam above me has "top contibutor" next to his name.

If either of these people answer a question, you can be well assured that the answer comes from a wealth of experience, and is well researched and thought out. They both go to a lot of trouble to provide the answer you seek.
