This is common behaviour in cats that were taken from their mother too early and also occurs in some other cats. My cat used to suckle on me and I thought it gave him a good deal of comfort.
I aked the vet what he thought and he didnt think it mattered too much as far as the cat was concerned. He said if I didnt mind it to let the cat do it and if i didnt like it discourage it.
As i said the cat seemed to get comfort from it and went all soft and dewy eyed and kitteny as he did it so I let it continue.

Your kitten is not wierd she was just taken from her mom too soon-she wasn't completely weaned.-Some kittens need to do this until they are 8-12 weeks. You didn't say how old she was when you got her-so many people get kittens at 6 weeks and for some that's a little early. Also some will continue it as a sort of security blanket. Get her a kitten bottle and put a little milk in (kitten milk from your pet store not people milk. Just let her suckle thata bit and she'll probably get over it quicker-whatever you do DON'T encourage it or you'll have a grown cat that does that yuck!!-cuddle her but gently say no (cat's aren't stupid) they can be trained to not do this GOOD LUCK

Hi

My kitten is 6 months old. Whenever I come in from doing the shopping if i am emptying the bags the cat will climb inside the empty bag and end up falling asleep. Another weird thing he does is, if you are lying in the bath he will sit and meow at you to dribble water on him until he is basically completely wet. I would say i have a cat with a problem, i thought cats hated water, obviously that isn't true.

My old cat Suckles on my ear and other people ear and around the toilet bowl. Now my cat suckles on our blanket and her tail. It is a thing that they have growing up with out there parents, And it is a comfort thing for them plus it is cute.

It is a natural instinct. She may have been taken from her mom too soon. Suckling for a kitten is like a pacifier for a child. It just sooths them.

Yes - my cat still does that and paws me, I think its cos he was weaned a little early, how old is your kitten, she should be about 9 weeks if she left mummy cat.
Suckling is nothing to worry about but should be discouraged

Thats not weird thats just love!!!

I have had my cat since he was 6 weeks old and he does this when he is tired or being really affectionate. He does it because he sees me as his mum and wouldnt do it to anyone else.

Your kitten obviously thinks you are the best person in the whole world and you are doing a really good job looking after her!

It's called kneading and it's not a problem.
There's absolutely nothing weird about that, lots of cats do that for life, when they have been taken away from their mum too young or couldn't feed properly for other reasons.
It gives them comfort and they only do near people they love and think are their new mum (if you give them food you keep them alive, therefore you're mum!) so it's a compliment, really, and it doesn't damage anything.

It's a comfort thing for cats, it's rare and it's incredibly cute. If she suckles you it's because she's happy in your company, you've become her mum. As far as I can tell it's not related in any way to early or late weaning.

This is natural for kittens they think they are still suckling from their mums, my cat is 4 years, and if she sits on my fluffy jumper she starts sucking it and her front paws start padding my jumper, it's really qute, but no good for my Cashmere!
