Why not checkyour local animal shelter or RSPCA for unwanted puppies. Rescue dogs make great pets!

First of all you need to decide what breed you think may be suitable, then take the time to research that breed & find a reputable breeder who can give you guidance & after sale care in case you have any problems. It's not a matter of finding the nearest litter of puppies, it's a matter of finding a breed that will fit into your lifestyle & then finding a puppy of that breed. Even if you are happy with a crossbreed, you need to decide what size/shape/temperament you want & finding one with a good chance of being free of health & temperament problems.

Go to a rescue.

Ignore the guy saying all Golden Retrievers are lovely. Some are-all can be with the right training- but many in the UK now come from puppy mills where they are badly bred. Many are also assumed to need little training as people assume they are all friendly-the result is dogs like 1 that lives up my road and is the most vicious dog I've ever seen.

I totally agree with anwen55, you need to decide on the breed first. There are lots of factors to be taken into consideration like how much excercise you are willing to give the dog, how much grooming etc etc. It is best to really think about what breeds will fit into your lifestyle first to make sure you make the right desicion for you.

About the Golden Retrievers.......yes they are lovely dogs - in the right circumstances (as are all breeds). You obviously love your dogs and treat them correctly, but speaking from my own experience if someone gets any breed and it is not the right dog for their lifestyle then it will be unhappy and probably have behavioural problems. You can't just say any one breed is the 'best' type of dog. It totally depends on the home they are in. That is not to say they even need to be in a bad home to have problems, but just one thats not right for them. All breeds of dog are wonderful, as long as the people owning them are responsible and treat them with respect.

if you want to rescue one look up you local shelters or if you want a specific breed try a breed rescue ie westie rescue or german shepherd rescue. Otherwise look in you local newspaper for animal kingdom/pet section.
Try and get a dog that has been vet checked, view mother where possible, try for one thats been vaccinated or partially vaccinated, wormed and flea treated. also check what socialisation etc they have had.
