I recently was stung on my toes by red ants. I have washed the infected area, put peroxide on it, and also put anti-itch cream on my foot. All of this isn't helping very well and was wondering if there was something else you could recommend?

With ant stings, you want to wash the area with a mild cleansing soap, dry with a soft cloth/towel, cover the area with rubbing alcohol (which will help with swelling, fight infection, and reduce redness), allow the alcohol to dry completely and use some sort of anti-itch cream. There is a product available called a "Sting-Stick" that is made for ant, wasp, and other insect stings.

Now that was the "official" medical answer. This is the "home" remedy. Wash the area with a mild soap and dry. But, instead of using rubbing alcohol, cover the area with vinegar (any kind) and allow it to dry. The vinegar with help remove the poison and if there are any stingers, the vinegar will draw them out. Another home remedy - take the tobacco out of a cigarette and hold it on the affected area - this will do pretty much the same thing as the vinegar. One last home remedy - cut a potato in half, use a spoon to "scoop" some of the potato (making kind of a potato mush) and again place it on the affected area - this will reduce swelling, draw out any poison and/or stingers, as well as reduce redness. After remove the "potato mush" wash the area well and apply anti-itch treatment. By the way - the potato mush thing also is pretty much an instant treatment and relief if you ever have a stye on your eye!

I hope this helps you out!

It might continue itching because of the blister at the site of the bite... I always pop the little blister, treat with an anticeptic - like neosporin w/pain stopper.
