If the bleeding has stopped, then put some ice on it, and have him take some ibuprofen, or tylenol.

I have had my toenail ripped off before(i cought the edge of it under a doorframe, when I swung the door open lol BTW, my toenail is just fine now, and I have never been to doctor for it. it did take about 8months to grow back entirely), I understand how badly it hurts. It should grow back on its on.

If it has puss, or bright pink/really red, hurts with the slightest touch after a couple of days, and/or he has a fever(even low grade) could be a sign of infection. So take him to the doc asap, or if doesnt seem to be growing back correctly.

If you cant get the bleeding to stop(i would say after 5-10minutes of putting firm pressure on it) , take him to the ER and/or call his doctor since he might need stiches.

This is well bizarre....when I was 10 I done EXACTLY the same thing I kid you not! I was sitting on my skateboard and going along on it like that and my hand got caught under the wheel and the middle nail on my left finger ripped off! God I remember it like it was yesterday (I am 27 now!). I do remember going to the A&E and they basically gave me a tetanus, cleaned it up and I had to wear a sling for a couple of weeks. My nail did eventually grow back and properly with no plastic surgery required or anything like that. Ah bless your son I hope it all goes ok! Had to answer this because it's so strange reading that this happened to him and me!

Most of the time nails will grow back. I slammed my thumb in my car door and I tell you nothing hurt worse, but I wrapped it up, and the nail did eventually fall off, but a couple months later, I had a new, even stronger nail! Bleeding's an issue, but the nail shouldn't be. Take care!

shop it antibioticed and wrapped with a sparkling bandage till it heals. Then in basic terms guard it gently till the nail grows back out. attempt to no longer reinjur it so in case you plan on doing issues with the hand i might wrap it up or positioned on gloves for that proceedure. it particularly is of couse once you're able to do without the bandage. that's going to take it sluggish to regrow the nail reckoning on how a great way down into the nail mattress it got here off. guess it harm massive time! Did that myself as quickly as. additionally rammed a great splinter correct down between the nail and the nail mattress as quickly as too. It went all the way down to the backside of the nail so as they had to surgically numb my finger to do away with the splinter. That became into ouch too.

Give him some children painkillers such as calprofen, keep it dry and clean and elevate for a couple of days. It will really hurt regardless so lots of TLC is important. You may want to dress it if he keeps banging it but would avoid covering it too much. If in doubt or he really uncomfortable take him to A&E (ER in the USA)

Go to the emergency room and get it checked, cleaned and dressed. Are you also sure he sustained no other injury, especially that he didn't bump his head?

If his nail came completely off he may need plastic surgery to put it back on or to ensure that it grows back. My daughter broke her finger at that point where the nail connects and she had to have plastic surgery. (it got shut in a door, by side with the hinges...ouch)!!!!!
