I am a junior in high school and have a lot of homework. My usual homework: Math (Calculus): 10-20 problems/night English: a book (right now "I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings") every couple of weeks World History: a worksheet or something every once in a while Chemistry: a lab write up or paper every once in a while Intro to Psych (extra college course): at least a chapter/week to read takes about 2 hours to read, do homework and take test French: a worksheet every once in a while It seems like if I am alone I do it just fine, but when my parents are alone, I never seem to get it done (I PROCRASTINATE!!!!!) What should I do because I get home about 4:00, get a snack or something, watch some TV (my parents say I need some "me time"), then am on homework for the rest of the night. What should I do to get done with everything on time???????

well, you're obviously organized as to what needs to be done for each of your classes.

And your parents are right about your "ME" time. I just think you're taking it at the wrong time.

I always had my kids do their homework as soon as they got home from school... they were still in the zone... lol

they got it done in a timely fashion because there were things that they wanted to do with the rest of their evening.

You, on the other hand, know that you have the rest of the evening to do it, so it's no big deal when you do it.

stay in the zone...do your homework first. You'll enjoy your "ME" time a lot more because you won't be stressing about procrastinating.

Good Luck

I have the same exact problem. The thing that I'm trying to do to help stop it is I'm limiting myself to things. For example, I'll say " No AIM until I finish my History homework." or "No cell phone until I finish my Language Arts homework." It takes a lot of self-control, but it's been working. Also, I've made schedule and for me, since I have block scheduling it works really well. For example, on Monday, right when I get home I do my History, Language Arts and Art homework. On Tuesday, right when I get home I do my Math and World Religions homework, etc.
The only real way to stop procrastinating is to stop being lazy. I know that I personally, make a lot of excuses, and I mean come on, who wouldn't prefer going online to doing homework?
I think you just have to try harder to do your homework, and try this. Tomorrow when you get home, eat a snack, then work on as much homework as you can before dinnertime, have dinner then come back and do the rest of your homework. Once you've finished your homework THEN watch T.V, because watching T.V makes you feel lazy so you won't want to do your homework.
Good luck =)

I am a recovering procrastinator.
I say "recovering" because I never really have gotten around to stopping the procrastinating.... ;)

My Grandfather once gave me a small round circle made of wood with the 'word' "TUIT" printed on it.

He said, "Now that you've got-a-round-tuit, you can get more done!" ...groan giggle...

My advice is to do the homework first thing. You will finish, and then relax before going to bed. Your "me" time should be complete down time leading up to rest for the next day.

Go ahead - get it over with.

Im not sure i understand the part where when your parents are alone, you procrasinate. But since you are well aware of the amount of hw you get, what time you get home, all you need to do is get an organizer. That way it can help you plan ahead and if you follow it you can have enough time to finish everything.

you seem WAY too over-booked, but that's school for ya. okay, lets see... your parents are right to have a little "me time", but instead of doing a whole bunch right before homework, do one subject, have alittle me time, do another subject, have a little me time, do another subject, have a little me time, etc. instead of have one whole block of me time, have a little inbetween each thing.
hope this hepled! :D
