have your mother walk you down the aisle? My mom and I are really close and my father is no longer in my life. Is it common for a mother to walk her daughter down the aisle?

It is your wedding so you should choose whoever is most important to you. The wedding day should be customized for you and not according to tradition. It is only tradition for a father to walk the bride down the aisle because traditionally women were the property of man. Since that is no longer the case, you can walk down with whoever you like. My boyfriend and I have decided to walk down the aisle together.

Nothing is odd these days. My father and I don't really get along, but I didn't want to hurt his feelings by having Mom walk me down the aisle, so I did something different. I had my attendants walk down before us (guys and girls together, similar to the way you leave), then my husband and I walked down together. Highly recommended! Plus it avoids the whole awkwardness and emotional part of him seeing you for the first time in your dress. I loved it!!! And everyone commented that it was great, too. But the point is, you can do WHATEVER you want and no one will care!

Oh yes most definately. At my wedding in September I had both my mom and dad walk me down the aisle. I am really close to both of them and my mom was really honored. Your mom will be as well. I hope your day turns out fabulous and congratulations on your upcoming wedding...best wishes...

Nothing odd about it at all. It may not be traditional but so what? It's your wedding and you should do what ever you feel. It's a very sincere, charming tribute to you Mother and shows deep affection between you both. Mom sure is proud to have a daughter like you and you are supremely fortunate to have a loving caring Mom that raised you right. God bless to you both and may your future be filled with happiness and spiritual well being.

I think it's perfectly fine. I've seen both parents walk their daughter before, I see no reason your mother alone shouldn't.
