Have had both as pets. Although the german shepherd is very intelligent i would have to say that the border collie is the more intelligent of the 2.

Border Collies are by far the most intelligent, this has been proven and they are easier to live with, I too have owned both breeds and the borders are much more willing to learn than german shepherds

The Border Collie is the most intelligent followed by the Poodle and then the German Shepherd. :)

I still prefer the German Shepherd though. Loyal to the death those dogs (and scary buggers as well)

I'd have to say border collies are more intelligent, but german shephards do learn very quickly too.
