Because mold spores are all around us in the environment.

All they need to grow are the proper conditions, and kitchens can provide just the right ones because of the heat from cooking and the humidity from washing, dish-washing, boiling, etc.

You may consider an exhaust fan in your kitchen if it is a recurring problem. Mold does not like dry and cool!

Mold spores are everywhere in the air. They only need a little moisture and the smallest of substrates to begin to grow.
