Church people, I believe, believe that atheists and others of their ilk are headed for Hell, where they will burn and rot forever. Not just burn but rot too.

Question: do science people who find the Bible stories rather far fetched, do they really have to go to Hell -- or can they get mercy for "extenuating circumstances" or whatever?

For example, what if a science person cannot, try as he may, manage to achieve the belief that Jesus came to life after being dead three days and rose into the sky?

Replies from religion scholars appreciated.

It does not matter about your social status or education. I studied molecular biology, yet I am a pastor. Some of the most brilliant minds have come to the conclusion there is a God. Albert Einstein who was a atheist earlier in his life came to a conclusion that there must be a God, because he saw there was a intelligent design in the pattern and arrangements of molecules and atoms. He said this could not have occured randomly. I thank God I have been around some brilliant minds in my day, but some of things can not be put in a scientific perspective. For example, the occurence of a miracle. A event which can not be defined by scientific measure, nor can it be subject to controlled tests to explain them. They are acts which occur outside of our understanding which can only be explained by the existence of a God. Everybody gets the opportunity to experience the power of God somewhere in there life. Therefore, no man no matter what his belief is will be held guiltless before God.

I just find it very interesting that someone actually responded with "education is not an excuse". What does that mean? So, reading, researching, and learning is not a good reason to abandon the ignorant facts that are in place?

So, according to that thinking, we should still believe that the earth is the center or the universe? We should abandon all the science that proves the earth is actually round?

That statement is the very reason that the Catholic Church retained the power it held for so long. Keeping people "ignorant" to the truth is the best way to retain power over the masses.

And, yet, with all the information sitting before them, they decide to remain ignorant, and contiue to allow themselves to be controlled.

You make a good point. Not only will they burn forever, they will rot as well. There's more. They will suffer unbearable itches, and not having arms or hands, they will not be able to scratch. In addition, they will have worms.

That goes without saying, everyone in Hell will have worms.

Your question was about astronomers. No, they won't get off cause of their career and education.

Education is no excuse.

Congratulations for your question. Please understand in order for you to exist, was necessary build the whole Universe. In the beginning there were not matter, no space, no time. Only an infinite energy very hot and condensed. 15,000 million years ago, approx was the Big Explosion. At that instant was created the row material of the Universe, the hydrogen atom. Then in the stars were created all the atoms. Our destiny is to grow as persons, to become to be very rich in spiritual way. If we do that, we will become to be able to arrive to the plenitude of being, and existing where there is no matter, no time no space, but plenitude. So our destiny is that.
