when i get a kitten and he bites (or uses his claws really roughly) during play I just immediately put the kitten on the floor and I walk away. The kitten eventually associates his rough play-fighting with not getting to play at all. I've had some cats realize this faster than others but it works eventually. The longest time I had to do this was six months. All my other cats learned within a month or two.

Do NOT give it cat morsels or treats ! that would be rewarding him for biteing you ! My cat does that too ! We flick him on the nose every time he bites us ! I think he bites less now but I will keep doing it every time ! We've only had him a few months. So I think it will take awhile. Consistancy is the key ! We also do the spray bottle thing when they get on the table and counter tops. I really hate that ! I won't let my cats do what they want just cause they can. Not in the kitchen, anyway. But I do let them sleep on the kitchen chairs if they are pushed in so they are not a stepping stool to the table. They sleep there for hours and at least I don't have to wonder what they are into. Especially , when I am sitting here on " Answers" for a couple of hours at a time. You CAN train a cat despite what some people say. The cat will never know they are doing something wrong unless you tell them when they do so. And nothing says " NO " like a good flick on the nose or squirt of water. Also say the word and their name loudly and firmly while your doing it !!! Good Luck !!

I had a cat who did this too and with patience got very good. First, every time he bites you, just say "ouch" in a clear voice and take your hand away and stop playing. Don't hit him or yell, but be persistent. After a few days, he'll realise that biting ends play time and he'll be more likely to control his urges to bite. He'll probably still open his mouth, but won't bite down as hard. Once that happens, get a soft mouse toy and when he opens his mouth, throw the mouse towards him. He'll learn to bite the mouse not your hand. Good luck!

I would hold her down, until she settles down. I have a ferret that would bite all the time when I first got it. I think it was used to being with other ferrets. It was not handled as a baby like the others that I bought. I needed leather gloves to handle it at first. The ferret has mellowed and does not bite now.

Get a small spray bottle and put water in it. When it bites, spray it in the face quickly...not a lot, just one little blast of water. Cats don't like that and when they learn that will get sprayed with water when they bite, they will quit biting.
