This is the homeschooling section. To walk from 'home' to 'school' means walking from the bedroom to the living room/kitchen.

I grew up in a small place and was comfortable walking to school. Where I live now, I wouldn't want to walk by myself, that's for sure. I don't even like going out at night by myself. Although I lived here when I was in elementary and in grade 4 often walked by myself (neighbourhood's not quite as good as it used to be, though). I was taught not to respond to strangers, unless it was something simple like the time, where the mall was (to which I was to say, "I don't know" and keep walking). I was not to go close to them, approach their vehicles, anything like that.

It would depend on how far away the school was. When I was in Illinois, the school was in the middle of the country. It was several miles away, so no, I wasn't comfortable walking there (the school provided busing). You don't talk to strangers or get in a vehicle with them.

Depends on how far you will be walking and when.
Can you walk with a friend or older kids you trust? Don't ever get in a car or really even stop to talk to strangers.
