I used to be so scared of needles too and I probably still am.
But my last blood test wasn't so bad.
I just told the lady that i wasn't too good with needles so she tried her best...
I just looked the other way and then i felt a little pinch that didn't really hurt and tried to relax...it wouldnt be any help if you're tense so try to relax...and you don't really feel anything when they are taking your blood but I think the worst part is when they take the needle out...which isn't too bad either..
and yes i made my mom stay with me
and don't be scared..its not bad as you think...
Good Luck =]

As a medical person I can tell you that normally the Lab people don't have a problem with Mom being there provided you don't act like a 2yr old that has to be held down. . . some kids make a big freykus and refuse to do as the Lab people ask because they know Momma is going to be there and will let them get by with 2yr old behavior.
Now if you can behave like the grownup that you should behave like,Mom can most generally go in the Lab room with you.
There is nothing to be afraid of.
You will sit down and you will lay your arm out on an arm board so the Lab Nurse can tie a rubber tube around your arm so to make your veins easier to see so she will only have to stick your arm once.
They will wipe your arm with an alcohol pad so to clean the skin before the stick to your arm.
Then they will stick your arm with a needle/syringe that will attach to a test tube where the blood will be collected.
Sometimes they need more than one tube of blood so when the first one is full they take it out of the syringe and put in another one until they have all of the blood they need.
When they are done, the will take out the needle/syringe,wipe your arm off with a cotton ball and then will either put on a bandaid or wrap your arm with elastic bandage.
If you sit still, you will only feel the little stick of the needle and THATS ALL! ! ! !
If you want to,you can look away when they do the needle stick. . . I do and I'm not only a Mom but I am a Grandmother too and I have worked in hospitals all my life but I don't like seeing the stick or knowing when it is coming.
Get a friend and practice the things I have told you and when you get to the Lab for your real blood test, you will be less nervous.(Don't really stick your own arm with anything but pretend.)
You are going to get ALOT of answers on this. . . some good, some bad and some just plain scary but I PROMISE everything will be like I have told you and I PROMISE that if you listen to what the Lab Nurse tells you. . EVERYTHING and I mean EVERYTHING is not as bad as you think it is.
You are going to be OK. Piercing your ears, nose, tongue and naval hurts worse than getting your blood drawn.

After you have this done, email me and let me know if I have lied to you or if I told you the truth. . . I PROMISE ! ! ! !

P.S. Normally they don't want you to have anything to eat or drink after midnight the night before you have your blood drawn so help the Lab Nurse and remember this. . . food/liquids can change the outcome of the blood tests they may want to do.

They usually let your Mom stay with you. Try not to freak out -it's not that bad. The needle will hurt some - a sharp prick, but then it's mostly over. The whole thing won't take very long. The person drawing the blood is usually very gentle and nice. Tell her it's your first time and they will be even kinder.

The more you relax the less it hurts and the easier everything is. I recite things while they take blood to keep my mind off it.

My son enjoys watching the whole thing and thinks it's neat to see your blood. It's not the color you'd expect.

If you're talking about a routine blood test, I can help you out a bit.

Blood tests prick initially, but really the worst part is sitting there with the needle inside your arm. It doesn't hurt, but it's a bit gross. It depends, but blood tests can take anywhere from 10 seconds to a few minutes.

Have your mom ask the physician if she can come with you. She can sit next to you and hold your (other) hand.

Your arm may get a little bit tired because generally you have to strain the muscle while the test is being done.

All in all, nothing to worry about! :)

Yes, your mom can stay with you. And don't worry they are not painful. I have gotten my blood taken, and i didnt feel a thing. Dont worry!!!

The only thing that i had a problem was that i felt dizzy and a little lightheaded. I did watch it, blood doesnt bother me. But even if you don't think it bothers you, you might still feel nausea from it.

So, don't worry, just stay calm, don't look and you will be just fine.

Good Luck!

I know this might sound kind of funny, but if you could give me the best answer i would really appreciate it. I am close to level 2 and i really need the points.. its okay if you don't.

Once again, good luck and don't worry, you'll be just fine.!

Nothing to it, it only takes a second or so, you mom can stay with you. The doc. will insert a syringe into to your arm and take a bit of blood from you,. ( very little) It will not hurt at all.

Yes, your Mom can stay with you...........what ever makes you feel comfortable.........
The Lab tech will simply draw blood.......it's as simple as that....pain or lack there of usually depends on the tech.....but keep in mind this is what they do for a living.....they're pretty good at it..............

If the test is being done in a lab, insist that your mother stay with you. You have this right. It should be ok.
