A DUAL PLANE 4BBL INTAKE IS A MUST, WITH A GOOD GOOD QUADRAJET OR 650 HOLLEY CARB WITH VACUME SECONDARIES OR A DOUBLE PUMP FOR BETTER ACCELERATION, BUT WORSE GAS MILEAGE. A SINGLE PLANE INTAKE IS FOR "RACING ONLY".
SMALL TUBE HEADERS ( FOR MORE TORQUE) AND A DUAL EXHAUST..
PUT IN AN "RV" CAM FOR MORE TORQUE AND HORSE POWER AT LOWER RPM'S.
MILLING THE HEADS SLIGHTLY "INCREASES COMPRESSION , DEPENDING ON AMOUNT MILLED AND 3-ANGLE VALVE JOB TOO...
A SLIGHTLY HIGHER STALL TORQUE CONVERTER IS A CHEAP WAY TO GET MOVING FASTER TOO (DON'T FORGET THE TRANS COOLER IF U GO THAT ROUTE. THE MORE AIR YOU GET IN THE ENGINE AND OUT THE FASTER.
JUST REPLACE OLD IGNITION PIECES WITH NEW. PLUGS, WIRES, COIL AND CAP AND ROTOR. UNLESS U R GOING TO BE RACING THIS TRUCK, STOCK PIECES ARE FINE. RACING PIECES ARE A WASTE OF MONEY, IN A 305. UNLESS U WANT TO PUT IN A STROKER KIT THE 305, NOW U R TALKING!!!!

Headers, a 4 Bbl. and a cam swap are the only ways to pump up this engine. I'd recommend you swap it as the benefits will hardly be noticeable. The vehicle is too heavy and the engine is too small to feel any difference; you're trying to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear.

Swap in an aluminum intake, get the Q-jet tuned properly, or replace it ( http://www.jetchip.com/products.asp?pid=23033 ), then put on some tubular headers. You could also consider a cam change. These are the easiest and cheapest ways to get a few more ponies out of that little V8.

You may want to beef up the Cam, replace it with a cam that allows for more fuel input (longer lobe duration) If it is still carburated.Swap the manifold and replace with a 4 barrel. You may also want to replace the distributor with a higher energy spark. Some cylinder heads come with larger valves. You may also want to go to dual exhaust so that the engine breathes better. If you can get away with it.remove any smog and pollution control systems.
