Why not serve God if you've got nothing to lose?

Question

If you are an atheist you believe that either way you die. Well why not die with a religion? You've got nothing to lose.

the point is, God will show himself to you more than likely to prove to you he is real once you arein his grasp.

My question is not lacking. Why should he show himself to a skeptic like you tre_loc_dogg2000. It would be a waste of time.

because I made a choice that allows me to think for myself. Religion dictates the way you think, the way you exist etc...
If I truly want to think for myself, then the answer is not in Christianity, or any other Religion for that matter. Religion is rigid has little room for interpretation or flexibility and is Man's idea of what God expects of him.

In a sense Religion and Science are one in the same..Today's word of God is just what that group of people accept as the truth today, every few hundred years that Idea changes some as new ideas are present or religions adapt to newer social ideas *ie.women as priests etc...* Just like in Science what is believed to be real today will be challenged tommorrow as new technology comes to light and changes our ideas about what we previously thought.


I say "Die Free to think for yourself" after all you have nothing to lose, so why give yourself something to begin with..

So basically you are just telling me to give up right, don't think so buddy I am not going to cave just because someone is on a mission from god. Let me ask this if God shows himself to me once I am in his grasp why wouldn't he/she/it do it before so that my soul could be saved or whatever. Well, I'd have to wake up early on Sundays, and spend three hours muttering prayers. What a waste of my time. Then I'd have to always pray, and if I did something wrong, ask forgivness over and over, and when I did something right, all the credit goes to God. Plus I'd always have to be worried that I'd made god mad and am now going to hell.
So I think I've got plenty to lose.

For one, I'd have to give up my Sunday mornings. I'd also have to give up drinking, an occasional smoke, drugs, and sex (now that we've decided against having any more children, sex from this point on is purely recreational and therefore a sin).

I don't think its that easy. Its not like many people don't want to believe in something. Why wouldn't you want to believe you are getting a spectacular reward when you die? You don't really have a choice in what you believe.
