The US Air Force (USAF) may prepare the world's largest bomb - the Boeing Massive Ordnance Penetrator (MOP) - for action aboard the Northrop Grumman B-2A Spirit by the end of 2007.

The Air Armament Center said on 17 January that it is "contemplating a quick-reaction capability" to integrate the 20 ft (6 m)-long, 30,000 lb-class (13,600 kg) weapon on the B-2A in a nine-month period starting after contract award.

This is designed to penetrate into the ground up to 200 feet through reinforced concrete. I think it came out of the frustration of not being able to blow up bunkers and caves in Afghanistan.

Personally, I'd rather see the money spent on education.

Doubtful. Hardened targets don't need huge amounts of explosive, they use shaped charges. If the facilities aren't hardened, then the last thing you want to do is scatter radioactive material all over hell and gone with such a huge bomb.

We've already got bombs designed for these types of things don't we? What's the point in making a new design?

I read about it in the newspapers, but I sense there is something else you're really trying to ask.
