NO! the vice president is running things and the press is covering up for him. We have no freedom of expression anymore, I tried wearing an anti-bush shirt to work and the made me change it. We invaded an innocent nation and killed its leader and on top of that we want to fight Iran and N. Korea too. I want to be quoted on this; America is going to be the cause of World war 3!

I trust the government a lot more then I trust the media.

The government is looking out for the best interest of all citizens and when they break the law, as it has just been disclosed the FBI did with the Patriot Act. Sure there is corruption as well in the government but it is far outweighed by the good that is done.

Does this make breaking the law okay? Absolutely not! However compare it to this....

When the media breaks the law they are doing so to make a profit and they could care less about who gets hurt in the process.

Two cases in point.

Abu Ghraib- they could care less about what repercussions came out of reporting what a few rogue military members were doing on the night shift. When the story was reported there was world wide violence.

CIA Agents- There are two stories here, the outted CIA Agent and the CIA Agent who leaked a VERY LEGAL operation of secret CIA terrorist holding bases.

---First Agent's name was leaked by a source within the White House to a reporter who got the name confirmed and then reported her name. Why did the reporter do this knowing full well it would mean the end of the CIA Agents covert missions and could even get her killed?
---Second CIA Agent went to the newspapers about secret military/CIA prisions in various countries because she did not agree with them. All the prisons are perfectly legal to have and were within Geneva Convention rules. Yet, the newspapers reported her story knowing full well what would happen in the international community. Now these countries are terrorist targets and are intelligence gathering as a nation is hampered.

What is the worse the government is doing when it breaks the law?

Overpaying Halliburton? Ask a soldier what they think of Halliburton. As a veteran I LOVE the company, as a taxpayer I hate it. If I was still fighting then I would say give them the money.

In closing, I very much trust the U.S. Government to do what is best for all citizens because there intentions are, for the most part, good.

Another point is that under Clinton we were attacked by Al Qaeda 5 times throughout his entire 8 years in officer. Under Bush we have been attacked by Al Qaeda one time and that was just after he came into office....over 5 years ago.

I trust the government up to a certain point, because I only trust people up to a certain point. What more is a government than a group of people who hold power and make decisions for a group of people? Since government is people, I only trust them to serve some sort of interest. You can always trust people to be dishonest- you just have to accept that dishonesty will result at some time. The government, overall, serves my interests of security, the opportunity to prosper, and some sort of quality of life. The things done by an individual or a group of individuals (that is immoral, or wrong) does not necessarily represent the group as a whole, so I mistrust the intentions of individuals, but with the competition of interests, I can hope that the greed of politicians cancel each other out most of the time, because those greedy interests usually conflict and balance one another out.

To a degree. Most people who work for the government are ordinary folk, trying to do a decent job and earn a living. Like everybody else, they screw up from time to time, and one of the virtues of representative government is that it at least possible in principle to fix gaffes.

Sadly, no. There are too many agendas, too few honest politicians, too many government employees who enjoy making others miserable, too much money for honesty, too many lobbyists and too much opportunity to abuse power.
