The walls/ceiling are light and the carpet is neutral, closer to light. I'm thinking of getting dark furniture to contrast it, I think it might look quite stylish.

What do you think? How will it make the room feel?

Everyone has their own opinion as to what looks good to them. I personally like the look of dark furniture against light walls. I like the contrast instead of everything blending as it would seem with light furniture and light colors. It has the look of 'no committment'.

Actually, you're right, it's very chic right now. Pottery Barn is a master at this style of decorating, look at their website for some ideas and inspiration, particularly the black furnishings. Very cool, modern look, particularly when the walls and carpet are light, dark furnishings help anchor the room so it doesn't appear to float.
