I'm not sure about online websites but TK Max do some really nice and pretty cheap dresses (where i got my prom dress). worth taking a look.

If you look for bridesmaid dresses (I know you're not a bridesmaid) but a lot are now just really nice formal dresses that they do in sizes from small child right up to adult. You may find something you really like and then get a local person or shop (possibly a bridal shop) to shorten the length for you. Saying that, there are a lot of knee length dresses around now. Take a look, you'll be surprised how many nice ones there are .............
Don't be put off looking on Ebay, there are alot of nice shops that are selling NEW clothes.

look on ebay... designer gear, for a fraction of the price... but dont buy anything from china... the postage is horrific.
