The first birthday party is really about what you want since one year olds have no idea what's going on or why you're giving them presents. And as far as other children, don't invite more than how the child is going to be - 1 max.
For my son, we had family over (which included one cousin 1 month older than him) and did a veggie and meat/cheese tray and other finger foods. At our local grocery store, when you order a cake for the first birthday, they give you a free cake for the birthday boy/girl, so that they can dig in however they like (and you can get lots of pictures and laughs). By the time we got to presents, my son was really overwhelmed. My husband helped him with the presents and we cut it short at the end of that. You'll have a tired little one after it's all said and done.
Good Luck! And best wishes for that Birthday Boy!

Don't make the party too big. Have some family and friends over. We just used the first birthday theme from the party store or you could do a character or something he really likes. But make sure to do a cake that he can dig into, that is the fun part (I made my girls cakes, I think it is better to make the cakes, for one it does not have all that icing they use from the store, also it is more special when mom makes it, my mom every year for our birthday let us pick any kind of cake, whatever we wanted we got, it was our special day, I am doing that with my girls!). Also I dont think you need any games or anything, your child is too small for it, and everyone just hanging out for an hour or 2 is still fun. Just have some easy kinds of food, like a veggie tray, fruit platter, chips/pretzels. Have fun!!

First birthdays are really special your baby wont know whats going on but its also a celebration of you being a mum and serviving the first year lol. On my sons first birthday we did some nice things to remember. First we had a large picture of him and people wrote on the back what there best memory of him was in his first year we have a keep sake box where this will go. we had other small children over so we played the usual games pass the parcel pin the tail but also blew some bubbles as 1 year olds tend to love this and finally last of all we did some hand and foot prints of him again for his keep sake box. Hope this helped and the day goes well

Yes it's true at 1 yrs old that it's hard to figure what would be the best thing to do but I have 5 sons so I also understand the importance of 1st birthdays and how special we want them to be.... I would say some ideas would be get alot of bright colored helium balloons with happy 1st birthday on them and some plates and cups with the same thing writing on them....Also what lil boy doesnt like tonka trucks and hot wheels.. I would be careful with anything to do with clowns though as some kids tend to be scared of clowns at that age.. But I'm sure you will figure it out as your planning it all.. It's gets easier on each birthday... well until the teen years roll around lol....

We didn't do too much for my sons 1st birthday. We did the whole baby cake thing and let him open presents. I didn't have too many people over. Just family and my best friend who's son is one month older then mine. After that he fell asleep lol.

nothing super big. just invite family over for a small lunch and cake and presents. if you want a theme i would go for a favorite tv show but using blue always works for a litle boy =] and happy bday to him. also a small cake for just him is a definite....it may get messy but its a prefect photo op =]

first...nothing to much...he is still only 1..he will likely get scared if it is too much!
Just have family..a cake..and presses...some decorations..
that's all he wants..or needs.
That is a tender age..and too much stmilation will cause him to be anxious etc
