It sometimes takes several days for a tooth to settle down after therapy. You should probably let the dentist evaluate the tooth by Monday and just try to avoid it for now.

The tooth itself isn't responding to hot or cold which is a sign that the rct was effective. The tooth is held by "ligaments and tissue" which still has "nerves" that will respond to stimuli, which is what may be the causing the sensation you're feeling.

Also if the dentist gave you any antibiotics you should continue to take these until finished. You can also take Advil or Motrin about 600-800mg for inflammation and pain.

There was probably an abscess that resulted in the nerve dying, causing the need for the root canal therapy. If there is any infection still there, it needs to be cleared up by antibiotics before the tooth will feel normal again.

We usually "reduce the tooth's occlusion," or remove the top portion so that this tooth won't touch any other teeth allowing it to heal and keeping it from being traumatized by "hitting hard" while the patient finishes antibiotics and the abscess is cleared up. This keeps you from keeping the tooth irritated or "bruised in the socket" by constantly touching or "hitting" it. It could also be a little "taller" in the socket due to the infection at the apex which would also make it hit heavy without this reduction.

Hopefully you'll start to feel better over the weekend but if not, see the Dentist first thing Monday so he can reduce the occlusion and evaluate this further. Hope I've been of some help with this. Good luck!

Did the dentist finish the root canal or just start it? Do you have more appointments scheduled to finish the root canal? If it is finished it should not be hurting at all but if it isn't finished some nerve tissue may be still present. Either way, call your dentist and let him know your situation, he needs to see you right away. Good luck.
