My parakeet has a brown buildup on her cere (nostrils). It doesn't seem to affect her but it looks horrible. Any home solutions to fix it? After searching the internet, I find that it could be mites or hypertrophy. Thank you.

When a female bird is ready to mate, her cear will turn brown and flaky. It looks icky but its not. There is nothing you can do to fix it, it will go away when she feels shes not ready to mate anymore.

A female budgie's cere will get brown and crusty when she is in breeding condition. It will go away when she no longer thinks that she needs to breed.
