ok, well, this can be done but it's extremely complicated and would involve a whole bunch of different professional software products... and that's just the music part...vocals is a lot more complicated still

What exactly are you trying to accomplish?

--edit--

surveyor is right, the easiest way of doing this is to play the song yourself or have someone else play it for you and record it in MIDI... Chances are, if these are popular songs, that someone has already done it and posted the songs on the Internet... You could also go to a professional music store where often they will sell commercial MIDI files... this will cost you but you'll get (if available of course) a very professional MIDI file to play with...

Now to answer your original question...Honestly, I don't know exactly what software is best used for this, but it's possible to take apart a WAV file and turn it into a MIDI file but I think it will be very very difficult and you will probably not get perfect results anyway... If you are into this kind of stuff I'd advise you to get your hands on some version of Cakewalk/Sonar, Cubase and/or Pro Tools and just start playing with them... If you can read music some kind of notation software like sibelius or Encore would be nice too I suppose...

And Finally I'd advice you to start reading pro-music magazines like www.recordingmag.com, www.guitarplayer.com or www.keyboardplayer.com

I wish you best of luck and lotsa fun!!! Oww, and use Google and the Internet, everythings there if you just look for it...

The best way to do this is just do it like I have done for years. Learn the song and play it or sequence it into your MIDI software.
