My daughter are 5 and 6 I think they are big enough to ride without training wheels! My 6 yr old won't keep the handle bars balanced then she falls over. My 5 yr old likes to just stop peddleing! Please with any tips you have. I don't want then riding their bikes to school with training wheels on them!

Patients my friend!!! Like learning to walk, your child will learn to ride a bicycle when she is ready. Why the rush???

I don't think it's as big a deal to ride with training wheels at 5 or 6. If your kids are like mine then they have way fewer opportunities to ride bikes than we did growing up. Which means they may take longer to get the hang of riding with no help.

If you want to push them, though, your best bet is to find an open grassy space preferably with a slight slope to it. The grass is softer to fall on than pavement. The slope gives them some gravity action pulling them along so they don't have to peddle if they get scared and forget. The grass gives some friction so it's hard to get going too fast which might scare them.

If you want them to trust you and let you help then DON'T let go of the seat when you're helping them. You only get one chance at that. If you let go and they keep going they're OK and you've taught them to ride. But if they fall because you let go then they are not going to let you help them again and will just quit right there.

You have all summer to teach your children to ride their bikes. The only way they will learn is to keep trying. Maybe the 6yr old hasn't developed enough balance or faith in herself to keep the handlebars straight. And so what if they have to have training wheels when they ride to school at least you know they wont be falling over and they WONT be the only 5-6 yr olds still using training wheels. Just don't show them you are upset and keep encouraging them.

I remember learning to ride a bike my dad ran behind me holding onto the seat telling me to keep going keep going then he let go and I did fine until I realized HE LET GO! And back then we didn't have all those pads and helmets. This was on a gravel road I fell and he picked me up brushed me off and made me try again.

My brother actually taught me how to ride a bike! I had no training wheels. He saw me sit on the bike every day supported by the front porch stair. He pushed the bike unbenounced to me and I pedaled. It was either that or fall. Which I eventually did. But I had control over the fall. I wasn't hurt at all. And man what a great feeling. I knew I could ride.

Oh geeze when did bike riding become a major issue? Guess what? I learned to ride a bike that didn't come with training wheels...it was a hand me down bike that had gone through my older cousins...and guess what else...I learned by falling, and getting banged up, bruised, bloodied. (we didn't have helmets or knee and elbow pads in the 50s and early 60s). That is just the way YOUR kids are going to have to learn...You can't really "teach" them how to peddle or how to steer...they just have to learn by doing...and falling down and geting banged up ...etc.

you may no longer rigidity a new child to do an exterior interest he would not like. that's like potty education yet back. He won't experience waiting. attempt getting him involved in motorcycles on his very own. tutor him video clips of cool (universal pedal) bike stunts. On a warm day, ask him if it may well be exciting to journey motorcycles to the ice cream save. If he's frightened of having injury, enable him %. out some elbow and knee pads that he thinks are cool. You positioned on some too. he will come around while he's waiting. you may desire to be happy you 8 twelve months previous has such an pastime in examining! :) that gets him plenty added than driving a bike!
