I once had two bearded collies, one male that I got at 8 weeks old and a female that was one year old when I got her. Kaycee, the female, had been badly abused before I got her and I think one of the problems was that she got sick in the car and was punished for it. When I tried to take her in the car she shook from one end to the other and also got sick.

Janet, their vet, told me to try gravol. Just half a pill 15 minutes before heading out in the car. Gravol makes me very sleepy when I used it and it did the same for Kaycee. However, she was drowsy enough that she didn't get nervous when in the car. After a few months of taking both my beardies with me in the car, I cut back to 1/4 of a pill for awhile and then to none.

She trusted me and lost her fear of the car. If the car was open she would jump in even if I didn't plan to go any where but had it open just for cleaning. Gravol works, along with a lot of love. Like I said Kaycee had been abused and I really needed her to trust me as well as the car. She also learned that the car was good, because it would take her to a park or beach.

Good luck on whatever method you try!!!!

My dog is given 1/2 a childs travel sickness tablet before we set off on a long journey.
She is dreadful always dribbling even on the shortest journey.
Just have to put up with it.

I had my last dog since he was a pup and every time we went in the car he was sick, i don't agree with feeding them countless amounts of pills for the sake of a bit of puke. Whenever the car journey was over he was absolutely fine and totally forgot about it, and there was never any trouble getting him in the car either, so think about it before you start jacking him up on meds!

I'd speak to your vet before giving him anything, they can prescribe something or advise you on an over the counter medication. It will be a catch 22 cos your vet will want to check him probably, but at least you'll know that you are not giving him anything to make him unwell and that he's in good health before you medicate him.

Yes, you can give the over the counter meds called Dramamine- they are also used for humans for motion sickness. Just call your vet and give them your dogs current weight and they will tell you the right dose!

you don't say how long or short the trips are , for long trips you can get mild sedatives from your vet , if its normal running around have an earth strap fitted to the car , it stops static which causes car sickness
