Mate of mine used Holt's duplicolour car paint from Halfords. People thought he was crazy but it worked.

Hi!

Yes, it does work, but it doesn't give a perfect finish. It gives a good enough one though if you do it properly!

I used International Tile Paint (I also used a primer, as it recommended). You should use one as it gives the paint a better surface to stick to and will prevent chipping and peeling.

Use a brush for the primer, but a purpose built mini roller for the top coat. Normal emulsion rollers are too porous for tile paint and won't work properly. The type of roller you need is small and quite solid foam-like. You should be able to find this in your DIY shop. This will give you a smoother finish.

You may also wish to invest in a white grout pen (available in the tile-paint section of most DIY shops), as this really cleans the whole thing up and makes the world of difference to the quality of the finish.

Just be prepared to be very patient. You need to apply the paint carefully and slowly. You should always follow the instructions to the letter (including cleaning all the tiles first and leaving enough time between coats). You can cut corners with most things in life, but definitely not this! Also, be prepared for the smell - it's quite toxic! Get the windows open!

I've included a few links for you below. I hope this helps!

Hey There!

I was just browsing around on Yahoo Answers and came across this question of yours.

Yes it does work but you have to follow the instructions exactly.

The tiles have to be grease free and you use the undercoat before applying the final coat.

I used it on old tiles in my kitchen and it worked fine. Can't remember which brand I used.

It's certainly cheaper than re-tiling.

Since you're doing some decorating, I wanted to mention that I’m an IKEA Regional Manager and was informed of a private website at my last regional managers meeting that ended up to be a promotion we’re doing.

This website is giving away several hundred $1,000 IKEA Giftcards for just putting in your zipcode. It’s a marketing campaign they are doing to see what areas of the country people are interested in IKEA!

You can’t go wrong… Just put in your zipcode and get a $1,000 IKEA Giftcard.

You could do some SERIOUS DECORATING for the free $1,000 from this giveaway they are doing!

Heck, you could even get the FREE Giftcard and sell it on ebay and go buy stuff somewhere else with the money you just made!

Yes Tile paint does work. My sister used it on her tub AND tile and recommended it to me. (they have a family of 7 using it daily, it's been 3 or 4 years and it still looks brand new) I used it on my 'steel' tub, still looks brand new. The only caveat, it tells you to be sure NOT to use any cleaning product containing bleach as it will discolor.
I found it on an 'endcap display' at home depot its a two part epoxy that once you mix together has to be used fairly quickly. (you can't wait weeks between applications) I'm sorry i dont recall the actual brand name...but i can recommend it without reservation

I have used a brand called Permenamel. It took a couple of coats to get good coverage, when using midnight blue over white tiles but it worked well and stayed on.

Yes. I repainted both fireplaces (previously hideous colours!) in a house that we bought, renovated and sold within a year and it weathered very well.

You do need a steady hand though and patience, but it's worth it!

I used International Tile Paint. It needs no primer but I don't think primer would do any harm.

Ummmmm... I would say no not really. I have a tile that was painted and the paint like pealed off and then it got all over the floor and stuff.
