Years ago I had a long haired "Lassie Type" Collie. I loved everything about the dog except the coat. I hike and fish and the dog would go with me. His coat picked up everything he came in contact with: burs, twigs, seeds. Does a smooth Collie have the same temperment, and do they shed badly?

Their temperaments are the same, but the smooth still sheds twice a year and needs regular grooming to get the dead hair out. The difference is that with his smooth coat he won't be picking up the burs and twigs, etc.

When I had afghans or my bearded collie, my house never had hair flying around. Now that i've got smooth-haired dogs (greyhounds) I do. If you have a dog that sheds, you're going to have to put up with some hair - less if brushed daily.

there's no distinction of their laying off. My aunt confirmed and bred tough lined Collies and as quickly as I went to shows along with her the two proprietor of the sleek and tough coats complained approximately laying off and gromming those canines. So assume a good volume of laying off from eiither.
