You're right about god not being human. But intangible, silent and unknowable?

Well, whilst God is not flesh and blood, then one could argue God is intangible. So is the wind. Although I guess you could argue the wind can be measured. Can God be measured? Perhaps not in scientific terms, but there are other ways.

Silent? Absolutely not. God has spoken and God's words are recorded.

Unknowable? Well, God can be known through God's words as recorded. Also, God can be known experientially.

Why call God a he? Beats me. In Genesis we read "So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them". So I think we can deduce from that piece of information that God has both male and female attributes. Only God is not flesh and blood.

The reason God is referred to as a he has to do with tradition. All those thousands of years ago when Genesis was written, women were a pretty subservient lot. Men ruled the world and the world was perceived through their eyes. Not a lot seems to have changed, but that's just a personal opinion and I diverge.

The key to all of this, I suspect, is that if you do not believe in a creator God, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, the Bible, etc., then nothing any Christian says is going to make any impression on your opinions. But that's OK. We're all entitled to our opinions - aren't we?

Why not call it the God idea? Because God is a reality. Well, at least, to some of us, God is real. And who are you to say my version of reality is not real? Please be assured I have not been certified (yet). LOL- which means Love the Lord if you're a Christian, or laugh out loud if you're not.

P.S. The questions here on the USA site are much more interesting than on the UK site. I'm going to visit you more often!

Because He identifies Himself as a He.God the Father,God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.
Have not seen or heard of any woman who wants to be called "Father".
He is only silent and unknowable to those who refuse to listen to His voice and see the signs He has left for you to believe in Him.

Some of your reasoning is in error. Silent? Wrong. Many of us call on him (father) by name and deed.
Unknowable? Jesus also called him father. He personally said his name is Jehovah......A male name!
Several of his prophets are named similar sounding names.
So why demean God? You cannot bring him down to your level, but you can be friends with him.

They call him he because Christians say he made Adam in his image, which was a man.
