I have a rescue Border Collie...she is an amazing lovely 20 month old female, but a tad naughty, hence, she had been abused. I have had a lot of advice on this site, with regard to controlling her behaviour, when she plays up. I have been VERY firm with her, when she is unruly, just for the past two days, and am amazed at the result, she seems so much more obedient, to the point, i click my finger, point to her bed, tell her to stay!...she stays!, then i reward her after 15 mins of staying put. She barks like crazy in the car, when she sees a dog going by, i was very assertive with her again today, firmly told her to Shut up!! sit down now!..she did!!...a visitor called tonight, she went nuts, i told her, bed!!..she went, i said stay!! she did!!!...am i winning here, is it possible to get the balance right after just 2 days, of continuous training? I am so pleased with her, feel i am winning, i love her so much, and want her to be a good girl!

Yes, well done both of you!
Your dog has accepted you as the pack leader; dogs are pack animals - and border collies are beautiful intelligent creatures who love human company. I had one for 17 years, and he loved my children so much, he thought he was one of them; he walked them to school every morning, and walked up to meet them in the afternoon; he played football with the boys, but they had to bar him because he burst so many balls!
He used follow my daughter to college, a half hour cycle away, and wait for her to emerge. We had him put to sleep four years ago; he had bowel cancer, and it nearly killed me.
May you have long and happy dog years with your lovely dog.

I don't really know much about dogs but its does sound like you are winning!
I watched a TV programme a couple of weeks ago and they trained naughty dogs in something like 3 or 4 days I think from watching that it is possible.
I used to have a border collie when i was little they are gorgeous dogs.

It is very easy to get things right once you let your dog know that it is not in charge. It sounds like your only problem was a leadership issue and you are resolving it nicely. When we make requests instead of giving commands, dogs kinda run all over us if they have the least bit of a dominant streak. This can easily create a dangerous animal out of what is really a very sweet dog who just needed a leader to give direction. As long as you continue to let her know who is really the boss and don't make requests when you tell her something, I am sure things will only get better. Just remember to reward her for the good behavior. Sometimes we get too caught up on correcting bad behavior that we totally forget to give them a scratch for just being a good dog (i.e. calmly laying down while you read a book). Kudos to you for taking your rightful place at the head of your pack!

Border collies are brilliantly smart dogs in general and yes, it is possible to be well on your way to a well behaved dog in two days.

I would encourage you not just to rely on punishment but to begin rewarding desirable behavior. If she goes to her bed, toss her a treat or praise her or pet her. If she obeys you and waits at the door, let her outside to play. That sort of thing. You can work it right into your lifestyle and everyone's happier!

Congratulations on your success!

It will take longer than 2 days. How do you know that the dog did not already learn these commands in her old home? It will take her a while to get used to your routines and what she is allowed to do, especially if she had been abused in her last home. As long as you give her time and are kind to her then i am sure that you will get along very well together.

Border Collies are one of the quickest and easiest dogs to train and are very obedient.
Well done to you, just make sure you keep up the training so she doesn't start to slip!

That's great. Keep up the good work with her. Border collies are very intelligent dogs. It sounds like she's learning very quickly what type of behavior is acceptable.
