I have a friend flying out of London, England (one way) back to the USA and I'm wonder how much more the plane tickets cost at the airport than what is listed on the internet.

Airlines nowadays use these demand-based pricing rules - the early seats sell cheap and the last few seats sell for a lot. If you are standing at the airport and ask for a ticket for a flight that day and maybe within the next hour they are going to hose you for as much as they can.

Internet is always about $5 less than calling for reservations. At airport is usually a multiple of the internet price. Also if you buy a last minute one way ticket at the airport the security screeners will assume you are a suicide bomber and check your luggage painfully-carefully.

It varies. Plane ticket prices are normally based on time of year and date purchased. Summer months and holiday times are normally more expensive. Also, the closer to the travel date that the tickets are purchased, the higher they will be. Most people believe that it is cheaper to buy tickets directly from the airline rather than through an online travel agent (like Expedia, Travelocity, etc.). This is not always true. While most of these companies do charge a service fee (normally around $20.00) the overall savings can be quite significant.
Some airlines do offer internet specials that can save some money as compared to buying at the airport, but I've found that most of these "deals" don't really work for me. To get them, you often have to fly at strange times or only certain days. For the hassle they present, it is just as easy to buy direct from the airline.
The easiest thing to do is check prices on line and then call your airline to see what their reservations office quotes. Sometimes it may be less than on the web, other times more expensive.

airport tickets can be more expensive..it depends on how far in advance you get them, what day and month your traveling and which airports your using.even if your in a rush you can still buy them off the net and get E-tickets which you just claim when u get to the airport.

If you buy them on the day of departure, they cost a whole lot more.
