Well Hello! I am from Pennsylvania too! Western side of the state! You are looking for Cabbage Rolls. My mother makes them all of the time.

She mixes raw hamburger with some precooked rice, salt and pepper. Then she forms them into large meatballs. This is a mixture that her own mother refered to as porccupine balls...I have no idea why? lol!

She then steams or boils the cabbage until the leaves are flexible and tender. She takes a leaf and lays it out. She then places a large "porccupine ball" in the center near one end and rolls it in the leaf once so it is just covered. Then she lays the left side and right side over top of the filling and then continues rolling the rest up.

She places them in a large pot and pours tomato sauce over the tops of them until they are just covered. She brings it to a boil and reduces the heat to medium-medium low. From there she cooks them for about two more hours.

I hope this helps some and I hope they put cabbage on sale soon because this has made me hungry for some!

It sounds like cabbage rolls. I think it's charming that areas still have regional names for things that others may not be familiar with. We are becoming so homogenized. I'm a little shocked at some of the unkind responses to your question. I don't see the point, unless being unkind makes them feel better about themselves. That's sad.

To me, pigs in a blanket are pork sausage (breakfast) links rolled up in pancakes served with maple syrup.

why would you call hamburger which is .....BEEF...... pigs, which is .....PORK..... in a blanket.

Pigs in a blanket is simply hot dog in a bun....and it has to be a red hot dog (chicken & pork).....not one of those nasty beef things.

They are either called cabbage rolls, or stuffed cabbage....you can change the naem if you want.....to cows in a blanket.
