If you were my daughter you wouldn't have to worry about that because you would not have one for a few years but I think maybe they think that good grades make for a better person??

LOL!!! Well, grades are about "character" which is very important for people of all ages to have. Character is your sense of duty and honor - what are the things that are important to you that you believe in. Character doesn't just happen some day, you either have it and use it or you don't. BTW, when I was in the sixth grade no one had boyfriends or girlfriends. Why don't you have some more fun as a kid before you start to worry about boyfriends. And if you're not going to do that then at least like the boys with the good grades. They'll likely be rich in the future and that will be a good thing then.

Maybe they don't want you to start hanging out with the "bad crowd" and not caring about your own grades... it's shallow, but that's what some people think. There are a lot of good kids who just can't do very well in school (mostly the school's fault for not giving the attention he needs). And then there are the kids who make good grades but can be a terrible influence on their friends...

I don't think it should matter, especially since you're only in the 6th grade, but parents are like that, they want to protect you for as long as they can, even if there's nothing to protect you from.

Parents always want their children to date "successful" people. It's like you suggested with the job. Mothers always want their daughters to marry rich ones for some reason. And a lot of people believe that good grades guarantee a good job which is NOT TRUE. Don't worry about it. Good grades or money or anything else doesn't have to mean the person is good for you, if you like the guy just be with him, you know him better than your parents and you know that he's worth it

Sometimes, lower grades are a sign that other things in his life aren't right. Is he in a broken home? Does he get the supervision he needs from there? Does he try? If he's brushing school off now, whats to say that he won't drop out,and later influence you? 6th grade is extremely early for failing grades. You might encourage him to get his teacher to give him extra time. Sometimes, all you have to do is ask. If he just plain isn't that smart, he could have worse things wrong with him. Maybe your parents should try and steer you off having boyfriends in gradeschool. In Missouri,if the school hears the term used by a student, its most definitely discouraged. Enjoy being a kid!

Well, most parents expect to see that your boyfriend is getting good grades or not. They want to see whats behind of what it all is, even though he may seem smart, doesnt mean he is always, and that is what gets parents going the most. So, even if he doesnt do the best on tests or, just isn't as successful as your parents were in school, doesnt mean they can judge him badly of how he works in school. Tell your parents, and be honest with them and say: "Mom and dad. I'm going to be honest with you. My boyfriend doesnt get the most best 4.0 in school. So, I hope you dont judge him the wrong way. It would hurt me, and I would be disapointed in both of you if you did this. Well, I hope you understand." And tell them how you truly feel!! Hope I helped!! ~*PARIS

first of all, why do you have a boyfriend in the 6th grade?

Parents (of older teens) want to know that their daughters boyfriends are serious about school, doing the best they can and managing their lives well and with good intentions. They want to know that the boyfriend knows that their daughter is very important to them.

So why not shock your parents altogether and break up with your boyfriend for now. Why not simply concentrate on your own grades, doing well your own self? You don't need drama in your life dear - plenty of time for that!
Believe me.

They're probably joking around. When I was in third grade, a boy in my class sent me a letter that said 'I love you' and had some of those little fake jewels in it. My dad sat me down that evening and the first thing he said was: "So what does he do for a living?" If you are only in 6th grade, your parents probably aren't taking your relationship with him too seriously.

i don't know what us parents are thinking half the time! i am one of those, too.

i'm guessing your parents might want to know if your boyfriend has good grades because:

they want you to be with someone who cares about their education....
they might want to make sure you are interested in someone who is intelligent...
and if you get good grades, they may hope your friends have the same ambitions you do when it comes to school work?

just some ideas.

parents ask what seem to be SILLY QUESTIONS sometimes, don't they?

Because it is in your best interest to hang with intelligent people who care about their future. Start now. Kids that care little about their grades are likely to grow into adults that are not successful and care little for adult things that matter greatly.
